Hello.
I havent posted for a while. Basically because absolutely nothing has been happening!
It's been a very frustrating 37 months in braces, without any mention of my op. I've mentioned it several times to me ortho, but She just says, "I know, Ive told the surgeon. I've done as much as I can".
Then, a couple of weeks ago I received a letter, asking me to attend something called a 'planning clinic'.
Can anyone tell me what that is, or how close I may be to my op?
Thank you very much in advance.

Well if it is the clinic with your surgeon, they will come and have a look and basically sort out exactly what they're going to be doing, explain the procedure, and sort out when your surgery will be. That's how my clinic went down (UK)
It depends on what they still have to do brace-wise, but usually if you have a clinic it means you're close to the surgery. I had my clinic this November, and my surgery date is scheduled for January

Thanks for replying Mate.
I hope it is close. I would be overjoyed if the said they were scheduling it for Feb or March. I'm not desperate to go under the knife or anything, I just want it done, as it's hanging over me and really getting me down.
My ortho has said, as far as she's concerned she's done as much as she can.

If I'm completely honest, I dont think id have started all this if id known how long it would take. I can still remember the words of the consultant I originally spoke to over three years ago when he was trying to put me off. "Are you prepared for 12 months of orthadontistry?" 12 months??? I wish!!! I dont know where he got that timescale from, but I can see now how ridiculous it was. Still, if it hadnt been for that, I wouldnt have gone through with it. 3 years of ulcers and being treated like a middle aged div kid!crazybeautiful wrote:I know how you feel- it's such a pain waiting for a surgery that can have such a big impact on your life. Since your ortho has done all she can pre-surgery, I'd say you're on your way to get a date
Hopefully the ends in sight!
Well I didnt expect that! I've just been to my 'planning clinic'. Eight boffins stood around measuring, discussing and prodding me. If that wasnt particularly pleasant, the news that I dont need my bottom jaw moving at all, just my top, was very welcome. Presumably this will make it a much more comfortable experiance, recovery wise?
Strange thing is, 3 years ago when they first told me I needed my top as well as my bottom jaw moving, I couldnt understand why. I always assumed my Buzz Lightyear bottom jaw was the problem. It turns out it will look perfectly normal when my top is brought out to where it should be. Who'd have thunk it?
Anyway, my op's pencilled in for Feruary or March, so I'm smiling. At least I would be if I didnt have tinsel teeth and a wonky jaw!!
