Do you have any ballpark numbers with regards to total cost for a regular bimaxillary surgery at Dr. G's? I know your surgery was much more complicated - I'm just looking for some rough numbers for the total cost (no insurance) for a bimaxillary surgery from a top surgeon. Anyone?

My surgeon fee with Dr A and a complicated case is in the mid 70s range. You can probably knock like 15-20k or so off of that for a normal case with Dr G. With no insurance, it will be worse because your anesthesiologist and hospital stay and all that won't be covered, so maybe try to get some blue cross (the hospital they use is a blue cross one) coverage to not spend that chunk of money.

@smile:

My consult with Dr. G was productive. We had an in depth conversation and he did seem confident.

However I am still looking in the Chicago area for a skilled surgeon and am meeting with Dr. Heffez and Dr. Balcerak in the next few weeks. I am optimistic as my ortho has high recommendations for them. I am still looking for several reasons:
1) Proximity to the OS (good in case something needs to be looked at, later treatment, and check-ups)
2) Cost (minor issue)- Dr. G is expensive (I was quoted at 50k for surgical fees alone)
3) Treatment (major issue) - My ortho gave a little warning that this would happen, but Dr. G wanted to change the plan from a simple 1 piece lefort to a multisegment lefort and BSSO. My lower midline has shifted over about 1-2 mm to compensate for the misplaced upper jaw, and we plan to move it back orthodontically with a TAD. Dr. G wanted to correct this surgically, which I felt was extreme. Note my chin is in my facial midline, and moving the lower jaw to the right would result in an asymmetrical chin. And there are the definite increased risks with operating on a lower jaw.

It may be because Dr. G is so used to surgery, but he also did seem resistant on the capabilities that orthodontics could do presurgically. My ortho has some tools (Suresmile with CBCT, 3D imaging/modeling, TADs, and Wilckodontics), so I am confident on the ortho part. Just need to find an trustworthy and skilled OS. My goal is to have my bite corrected in the most efficient and effective way possible.

What do you think? And how are you doing?

@Figamentation:

I sent you a PM. May I ask who your surgeon and ortho are? Thanks!

Btw, I plan to use Dr. G if there are no alternatives here. He definitely is experienced.

@GrizzlyB- My surgery cost was just under $47k. due to the extensive amount of EVERYTHING they had to do...my insurance has currently covered only $16k, so I am fighting it.

@Mikey- I'm glad you had a good consult with Dr.G. I know he was the best for me, I understand you wanting to get a surgeon in your area! I would trust in his understanding of what ortho's can an cannot do pre-op based on the fact that he and Dr. A teach people on how to do this all over the world. And keep in mind, Dr. A (did you get to meet him?) will be the assistant surgeon during your surgery, so you really couldn't ask for better. I am doing alright...day 40! Only 4 more weeks till soft food!

I wish I could go to Dr A or G for my second surgery :( they sound like miracle workers....however being in the UK it is not feasible and having to remortgage your house to pay for you jaws is not practical!!

I'm staying in the UK 3k for double jaw privately.....1st 1 was free on NHS but surgeon was not Board Certified and I did not know you had to check these things...no tracings, no diagrams no explanation of the procedure they just did it and now im having to go through it ALL AGAIN at my own cost.
