the NHS hospital in bournemouth,uk have been fantastic.. had my 5th appointment after meeting my ortho and surgon and
having pics taken ..ect..ect..
and so i got accepted :) so first stage is the prep.. get the brace on the 3rd of march.. and for the NHS thats very good... i was thinking i had to wait till like summer lol.. so thats fab..

unsure how long i will have to wait before the op .. like a year or so?...
but not really mentally prepared myself for that stage.. never had a op in my life or been in hospital for anything. so its gunna freak me out i know.. but i want this done so bad..(with it being the only option) just need to drill it in my head that once this is over i will no longer feel so unhappy and will be able to :D without feeling so ugly..

roll on 3rd of march... was the best christmas present i had hearing them both accepted my case ...

thanks 4 reading and a very merry christmas 2 you all x x x x

Glad you got accepted and can start your treatment soon (ish)

As for a timeline for your operation, it really depends on how much your teeth need to move. And this is a matter of nature, rather than NHs waiting times!
It is typically a year, sometimes a bit longer, sometimes a bit sooner. Your ortho and surgeon will likely work together though, so as soon as you are ready, or nearly ready, you will get a clinic with the surgeon and they will book the closest date to suit your situation. For example, I saw my surgeon in mid-November and he popped out into the corridor, rang the hospital, and got me a date for January. Currently counting down the days to go in my ticker below

Operations or hospitals generally are pretty scary, so it's inevitable to feel some nerves, but just research on here and post any worries you have, and no doubt people can help ease your mind when your date comes around :)

 It's fine- yeah 18 months is a long time, but my teeth were quite a mess! Even pre-braces I had to have expansion surgery on my top jaw because it was too narrow. So really my treatment time starts from November 2007, which is when I had the expansion.

If your teeth aren't too bad, you won't need as long in braces pre-surgery, since there will be less work to do. But it does go by quite quickly. I've been restless since summer this year because I knew I was nearly ready for surgery, but the time went by in 2008 relatively quickly, at least!

Yeah I'm on the NHS too. The waiting time to get started is annoying, but once you get into it, your treatment will be prompt and efficient. My ortho is lovely, and my treatment has gone well so far. I anxious to get the surgery done with, though. It has been a long wait.

Thanks for the well wishes. The op still seems like ages away because it's all the way in 2010 :P Need to get all my food stuff sorted out, but as for the actual surgery, I'm totally ready to get on with it.

PS- I'm in the mood for evaluating my teeth, so here's a pic from before to where I am now:

Obviously my jaw is still a mess, but my teeth aren't. Now you see why it took 18 months

I think my teeth look more white than they actually are in the photo because it's not good quality! Not that they're yellow or anything, but they're not so perfect :P

Give up fizzy drinks? Never! I'm drinking one right now! The only way to get your teeth and braces 100% is to live on water alone, so I wouldn't take too much notice of all the 'do nots'. The only thing I don't do is bite into hard things, so as not to break the brace.

Only my 2 back teeth on the left touch too- very annoying! Since your teeth are relatively aligned anyway, I don't imagine your wait will be too long. But of course you can never be certain with braces; sometimes teeth take forever to move (or so it seems!)

Thanks for checking out my blog. I try not to moan too much, but it doesn't alaways work! Still, now I'm nearly ready for surgery there's more to tell :)

wish mine where was white as your when i take pics of them..
i had a brace when i was in my teens (thinking that would help me) but didnt what so ever anyhow.. being a teen i didnt really erm.. clean them properly  so i was left with afew yellow rings, paid for treatment to fade the rings but you can still see them alittle.. but will 100 per cent look after them this time round ..and also giving up smoking has been very hard.but i know i had to if i wanted this op.. after its all done and brace is off and my teeth are visual i will have a whitening session and hope my end reslut i will have a simon cowell smile lol

are you doing anything special a week before your op? like going away to take your mind of it?..
your have to keep us updated on your recovery...

Good on you for giving up smoking :)

I'm not doing anything special, sadly. In fact, I have an exam the day before, and 2 essays to hand in (uni student), so I will be at my university the day before!

I'm not anxious about the surgery, more just nervous is an excited type of way, so I'm just counting down the days, really! My essays and revision will have to take my mind off it, but then I'm procrastinating over those anyway. I'll end up in a mad rush the 2 days leading up to the 12th, I'm sure
