I had surgery whilst I was anemic.

Just as they were wheeling me in they pointed out I was anemic and told me to fix it after.

Depends how anemic you are really but you should mention it as lack of iron means you may not heal properly.

Always be honest and tell your surgeon/anesthesiologist everything as it can be life saving. It's better to tell them sooner rather than later. It would probably come up in the pre-surgical bloodwork anyway.

It is SO important to tell your surgeon everything about your medical history. My daughter has low blood pressure and even though they were aware of this prior to surgery there was a bit of a panic when she was coming round from her second surgery because it dropped so low - believe me you and your loved ones need to know that your team is prepared for everything. Take care xx

Jane, did your daughter still have the surgery and what did they do about it?

soccerchick11 - hi - yes she did have surgery twice and both times there was a bit of a panic in the recovery room because her blood pressure dipped. It's normal for this to happen, but hers was low to start with. It was ok - they just managed it and kept her in the recovery room for longer. I think it's because the buzzers go off when theres a dip and even though it's in the notes it's always a bit worrying for the staff when it happens She was fine and there was no question of them not operating because of it. Just explain to them what your situation is and I'm sure they'll be happy to work with it - it's just important that they know.

Wishing you well - God bless xx
