Genioplasty question

#1 Post by soccerchic11 »

hi i will be having a bsso and sliding genioplasty soon and i was just wondering if a sliding genioplasty could lengthen my chin changed the shape of my face. my face is not long because of my weak chin but i would desire a more heart shaped face without my face looking elongated
what i am asking is what can a genioplasty actually do to the face and chin?.............. :?

I think that genioplasty can do whatever your surgeons intends for it to do.

The shape he will make your face depends a lot on what he needs to do in order to give you the best possible bite. If you face is heart shaped already, it could be because of an underdeveloped jaw that is forcing you to have the surgery in the first place.

Sometimes in genioplasty, an implant is used. I would assume that use of an implant would make your face appear longer than if an implant is not needed.

Overall, I would say it is important to talk to your surgeon about your post-op expectations so that you aren't unhappy with the results. However, your doctor's first priority will be making your bite healthy etc.

When is your surgery?
Your surgeon should have talked to you at length already about your new chin if your surgery is "soon"
