Newbie to Braces and oral surgery on the way..

#1 Post by graciesmom »

Hey everyone! I am new to the forum and braces. I am a 33 year old wife, and mom to 2 girls :) I have been wanting braces for a while and finally took the plunge...it has only been 2 weeks and I want them off already..argh! I know ...suck it up buttercup..LOL! I have to have surgery to remove 3 wisdom teeth and also an extrusion of my upper cannine which will then be tied to a gold chain that will be attatched to me wire to slowly bring it into place. Guess looking for any info or tips on what to expect those who have been through it all before??

Hi- I am a 34 year old mom with three kids 7, 4 and 1 so I am pretty much in the same boat as you! I get my braces on tomorrow and a so nervous because I know once I get them on there is no looking back!

So have you met with your oral surgeon yet? Do you know if you have to have upper/lower surgery or both??

Mandy :)

Hi!!

I had 6 teeth surgically removed. 4 bad molars and 2 wisdoms. Id recommend going the IV route if you dont want to know whats going on. They stuck the IV in and it only seemed to take 30 seconds and I was out. Every single person is different, just like all of our mouth's are different. I personally never experienced any pain after the surgery, only soreness in my jaw.

The bleeding for me was the worst part. It bled for a few days. I found tea bags worked great, and they taste better than that awful gauze they shove in there. Just don't plan anything else that day if you go the IV route. I know I was extremely groggy and sleepy that whole day.

Good luck!! :D

Yep! Looks like there are a few of us in the same boat :) So far it is 2 upper wisdom teeth and one lower and a cannine to be lowered with chains into place. That is the one that worries me the most! Going throu all that and hoping it comes down , I know sometimes they don't :(

I am a 33 year old mother of 2 boys (4 and 2.5) and I have had my braces on for 14months now. Had lower jaw advancement surgery 2 months ago.

It has been hard - but it will be worth it for the long term health of my teeth. I lost a bit of weight on the way too - its such a pain to snack when you have braces.

There is great support and information on this forum that is for sure.

Goodluck with it all.
