KNOCKED JAW AFTER SURGERY

#1 Post by loulou30 »

Hi,

I had a bimax just under two weeks ago, this weekend i took a knock to the lower jaw from a small basketball, accidently. Wasnt playing, just foolishly stoof next to someone laying a basketball style indoor arcade game   . Not happy one bit. So gradually ive been feeling some discomfort around the joint shootin up to my ear, also if i tilt my head, which i could do fine before,im feeling pain in the opposite side of my jaw (i.e if i tilt my head to the right, the pain is in the left and vice versa)

Has this or something similar ever happened to anyone and can anyone give any suggestions as to the damage this may have caused. Really annoyed that ive gone through this surgery, started the road to recovery and for this to happen

Hey there ouch for you I would be so p+ssed off poor you. I had bimax just over two weeks ago and I bashed my jaw on my friends shoulder when giving her a hug! It hurt like hell and I felt a lump in the area after though I'd just seen my surgeon that day and he said I had a blood clot in that area so I'm not sure if it was there already or when I knocked it. All I can advise you is if you are really worried go see your surgeon.

Apply some heat pad to the area and hopefully not much damage has been done. I get so paranoid people are going to knock me! I live in London too so dread getting the tube when I return to work!

How have you found recovery so far?

Didnt think of using a heat pad. Somethings definitely amiss as i didnt really have that much pain or discomfort in my jaw joints before this mishap grrr

i had it bad for about 5 days, trouble swallowing, lack of sleep,a lot of pain from the swelling.on the 6th day i felt okay enough to stop taking all the medications i was given (fat lot of good they were anywayliquid ,paracetemol?! childrens ibuprofen!!) and juststarted taking tablet form of ibuprofen when i needed it,mainly for the pain from the bands.

p.s i have pm'd you as i think i might have spoken to you on a different forum about jaw surgery a long time ago, although it could have been someone else, forgive me if im wrong!

I've been punched in the jaw at least once a day by my baby who's just at that grabby, punchy stage. It hurts like heck sometimes, so hopefully nothing will come of it. I do have something weird going on with the left side of my jaw and the midlines do match up anymore, but I don't think it has anything to do with getting knocked. Who knows though.

Hey LouLou I've replied to your message but its still in my outbox and not sentbox so not sure you've got it. How did the appt go?

I had to see my GP who reckons I need my infection draining. Great. Might just have to brave the tube strike and virgin trains and get up to Liverpool. Sob. X
