Abscess on gum

#1 Post by redfoxjo »

I'm 7 weeks post-op, had an infection week 3 that needed draining. I think I have an abscess on my gum at the site where they cut to drain. I've tried doing lots of research but not really sure what is a sure sign of one. I'm seeing my OS tomorrow in an emergency appt but just wondered if anyone else has had experience of an abscess?

I really don't want to go through the trauma of having it drained again but also the idea its damaged my molar is worrying as that is tender when I push with my teeth.

I've had no increased swelling but it has hardly gone down since the infection was drained. The lump now present is red with yellow spots (pus underneath no doubt) and a centimetre long. I got it checked out last weekend and the doctor I saw said it wasn't an abscess but it has since got worse. However like I said, no increased swelling or fever but definite pain and tenderness in area.

I'm scared about what my surgeon is going to say tomorrow. I've never had mouth problems in my life. Two fillings that's all and since this jaw surgery, nothing but pain and infection. Why have I been so fukkking unlucky?!

Chances are he will only prescribe you antibiotics. You'll have to take them for a week or so before the abcess disappear. But again i'm not a OS and my recovery went quite well. Everyone has their own way of healing yours is juste slower and different.
