Surgery pre-approved and received my cost estimate

#1 Post by hundreds »

I just recently been pre-approved for my Lefort 1 & BSSO surgery. They will not be covering the genioplasty that my surgeon recommended that I get for cosmetic purposes.

I had wore braces before about 6-7 years ago, and now I'm getting them again because I'm not happy with the results at all. This time I have to wear braces for approximately 1 year before I get my surgery, and 4 of my teeth will have to be removed. Two of those will be my biscupids and the other two are regular molars because I had a root canal done on one, so the ortho suggested to remove those teeth rather than placing a crown.

My OS gave my a cost estimate of around $7k out-of-pocket for the entire surgery (orig. cost not including insurance is ~$20k) . He did not provide me with an estimate about the hospital costs, so I'm not sure what to expect or budget for it. What should I expect the hospital costs to be?

I was also told that my OS has a machine available for rent that speeds up the recovery process by reducing the swelling. It wraps around your head and provides constant cooling or something . Has anyone heard of this device?

Heh I don't have a clue about the hospital fees cos my insurance picked mine up 100% and I didn't pay it much attention but I do remember that the insurance and hospital argued a lot of the fees for a long time.

I heard of the device you're talking about but my surg doesn't use it. Only heard of one surg around here who does, and it seems like most of the really experienced ones here don't fwiw. You can cool pretty well with the big ice-gel packs you can buy at drugstores as long as you have several so you can keep a set in the freezer and you only need the ice for the first couple of days. I've not seen the machine but I wonder if it would'nt feel bulky and make you feel uncofortable.

My hospital bill was $86,000. Insurance paid $38,000. I paid $1500. The rest was discounted.

Here is a link to the machine you are talking about. They are quite pricey to rent: http://shop.aqueductmedical.com/categor ... tegoryId=4
