How long until you can chew well after surgery?

#1 Post by mamaneedsanewjaw »

Hi all....curious as to know when I can expect to be able to chew things like chicken, chips and tougher foods after surgery? I am cleared to chew after six weeks but how slow does everyone take it?

Thanks!

I'll be honest...in my case chewing hasn't been the same since I started all this. My teeth and bite changed so much between surgeries that nothing ever settled.

I'm at 8 weeks right now from the 2nd surgery and I'm still definitely taking it easy, although with my teeth in the proper position I feel one day all will be well. I think it will be several months before I venture for a steak or something like that, though.

I also think I'll wait until I'm debanded before I make any final judgments. Half the issue is having wires, rubber bands, and all his other crap to deal with!
