Therapy For Potential Orthognathic Patients in California?

#1 Post by dayeangphurr »

I'm not sure if there is such a such a specialist but I am seeking a therapist/psychologist for emotional distress - preferably one whom has prior experience with patients considering orthognathic surgery. I would see a regular therapist, but only as a last resort. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Have not come across anyone who specializes in this in any location. Can only wonder why. Would be curious to know if there is anyone out there.

I haven't heard of any either, but I think it would have been a great resource for me as well. I mean, it's common knowledge that after surgery you have "the blues" it would be nice if there were someone who could specialize in helping those post-ortho surgery out. Good luck, and keep us posted if you find out any information. Have you asked your surgeon yet? I never asked mine.

I'm sorry I can't help the original creator of this thread, but if there is anybody in the Chicagoland area that is looking for a psychologist that has experience with orthognathic surgery patients I can give you a name. PM me if anybody is interested.

I haven't had jaw surgery yet and am interested in seeing one prior to the procedure. My jaw issues has consumed a prominent part of my life as I need help coping it. I'm twenty two and my social life is severely compromised due to my insecurities regarding my jaw.
