Went to Tim Horton's for lunch today with my 10year old---ate a lovely bowl of soup, the inside of the bread/roll that came with it (the crust was a bit too crusty), and a delicious (but not nutritious) boston creme doughnut (I figured it was OK since I lost a bunch of weight right after surgery

) It was soooooo tasty!!
I am almost totally off the protein shakes---only down to every other day or every third day depending on what else I have in the house...if I am afraid I may get hungry if we are out all day with no good soft food choices then I take one along with me.
You just have to branch out a little bit, use the jaw as much as you are able to---eating normal food will start to make you feel better again...I forgot we went out for Greek last weekend--I ate rice, roast lamb, and hummus (with a spoon)--missed eating the pita bread, but I got over it!!
