Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
Luke, I think of that--only 3 more days!!! So you will be wired shut? I will be banded shut completely for 6 weeks too. Doesn't look like my OS negotiates on that issue at all. That's OK, I feel like I am in good hands, so 6 weeks it is! I'm glad there are so many of us May buddies--that will be a big help, I think.

Hi May buddies, I arrived home yesterday and its so good to be home. All of you worried about pain, its not that bad. It is sore, but it is not agony you will get through it. Two days after the op was the worst because that was the height of the swelling. You will feel sorry for yourself but it does ease. Try to snooze as much as possible and let the nurses look after you. It really isn't agony, surprisingly the most pain for me was headache because of the pressure from the swelling. Wishing you guys all the best and keep in touch, Sams

My op's on the 11th too and doing exactly the same - eating loads and avoiding anyone who looks slightly under the weather. How long's your op? I'm expecting about 5 hours, find out all the gory details today!
I'm feeling really good about it all, not nervous at all, will be glad to look somewhere near normal again as the braces have made my underbite so bad I've been funny looking for far too long now. A few weeks of swelling and pain is totally worth it in my view.
Good luck to all and dont panic! It's a good thing, remember?

Good to hear everything went well for you Sam and your info about pain etc is reassuring. How are you coming on now?
I am due to go into hospital tomorrow morning and will be operated on around 10am (UK time) and should be around 4/5 hours.
Good luck to everyone. Should be out of hospital by Thursday and will try and post then.

I am getting wired shut (I think, since I have had 17 hooks put on).... for 6 weeks. Going be pretty dire but so many people have done it before. Sounds like we'll be going through very similar things, so it is good we're on here to get us through this.
Just over 14 hours until I am operated on now.

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
Hi buddies! Seems that you're doing fine!
I had a meeting with a surgeon and a professor today (not the surgeon who's doing my surgery, I'll meet him on friday).
I took a lot of pictures, x-rays and other measurements, and they discussed my surgery details.
I will be having lefort 1. Impact 5 mm "in front" and 4 mm "at the back" as they said. Since they are moving my upper jaw upwards, they need to move it forward as well in order to avoid an underbite. (The lower jaw rotates outwards as the upper jaw is shortened). So in addition to move my upper jaw upwards, they will also move it forward 3.5 mm.
I asked about changes in my nose. As I already have a slightly upturned nose i was worried that it might be even more upturned, and wider as well. They said I must expect to see slight changes in my nose, but since they did not move my upper jaw forward too much, they expect the changes in my nose to be small. I am very happy about that
After i saw the surgeon i had a meeting with my ortho to get regular braces and surgery hooks installed. So now I'm in a very exclusive club: us with both regular and lingual braces at once! A LOT of hardware, I tell you!
I get my blood-tests etc. done on friday, and then it's surgery on monday.
As the rest of you I am trying to keep myself busy, and not think too much about the surgery.
Best of luck to all of you!

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
Hey all, just got back from the hospital and really sore. My nose is clogged with blood (from the turbinectomy) and my face is swollen. Can't wait for these first few terrible days to be over.
Also, my bite doesn't feel right. When my surgeon came in this morning he said that when the surgery was done the bite was fantastic. He thinks my facial muscles are currently preventing a perfect bite. Anyone experience this before? I really hope my bite comes out okay and I don't have to do this again.

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
I am just now 6 weeks post op and my bite didn't start feeling 'right' until week 4-5, so hang in there! My bite is actually getting better with every little tweak the orthodontist makes. Also, I was really tight on the right side of my face and it affected how I opened my lower jaw (kind of down to the left), but this has been getting better over time as I have now been told to start exercising it.romancommander wrote:Hey all, just got back from the hospital and really sore. Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
Hey rtxtavi, yea the orthodontist probably has to make some corrections. Good call. Do you know how long it will take for my nose to de-clog? That is probably the most annoying part of the recovery process. I really want to blow my nose but I was told not to and it will probably start bleeding profusely if I do
Time to go watch some movies. Haha.
