Home. I have had a terrible time so far and somewhat regret this. My surgeon said the op went very well and he is really pleased with the results but the huge mental change, from being able to eat and speak to having my jaw wired shut really scares me. I have had very little sleep. It has been awful. Face us huge too. When does it get better? When will I be able to speak again? (please don't say when I get the wires off).

Hey luke88 and Rizzie, I empathize with you both. It has gotten even worse for me (swelling is supposed to be the worse by day 4 and I am just on day 3!). I woke up with bruises around my eyes, I assume from the extra swelling. I just can't wait for my bloody nose to heal, I can only breath through my mouth which is causing me to have a really dry throat and lips. I honestly can't wait until week 1-2 where things start to get better. It has seemed like eternity so far...

Totally get what you mean here because I am going through exactly the same. This is not for the faint hearted.

Feeling around my cheeks and mouth seems to be coming back already though.

How's everyone doing today? I got my nose unclogged a little with lots of steam, saline nasal spray, and q-tips and hydrogen peroxide. I've been very careful, though, and have had no excess bleeding. Don't really feel like eating yet, but I'm drinking water. Hopefully, will feel like having something more substantial later today.

I've been getting a little sleep (very little). It is amazing how time has slowed down after this surgery. I guess I just want the first weeks behind me. Well, enough whining...we will get through this, and it will all be worth it. We knew it would be rough, right?

I had to respond to the 3 of you. I am so sorry you feel so bad! i think i am week 8. I wanted to let you know that first week is bad. It is just a complete pile on of problems, some expected and some completely random. I personally think it would be much more manageable if you could sleep. I believe the lack of sleep is what sends us over the edge that first week.

We feel your pain in ways that others can't. I remember my husband trying to act like he understood because he once had shoulder surgery. Please!!! I almost killed him. Moan and groan all you want bc it is rough. HOWEVER, it gets better after about a week. Those thoughts of "What in the world have I done" will vanish, I promise. Just hang in there.

I wish for each of you that somehow tonight you can get some rest!

I made it. Surgery was yesterday. I'm in hospital until tomorrow. Very bored, very swollen, and actually very full from the ensure shakes they making me drink.

Doc says surgery went very well. I could breathe out of my nose only, then nose and mouth, now just mouth. Boo. Difficult.

And I am not tired but want to sleep to move the time along.

For those of you not yet on the other side, it's not awful, but it's no club med vacation either.

Oh, and also... I am not very numb. Not as numb as I thought i'd be, just swollen. So pain meds are a must for me now. I'm a 5/6 on scale to 10.

Finally slept for the first time today since my op on Tuesday. I slept around 6 hours, broken sleep but I feel better as a result. My swelling has peaked and is hardening it seems. Bruises are coming thick and fast. I have feeling restored all over my face, some patches I can't feel but only day three, this is really good news. Been taking my meds and vitamins and drinking those Ensure drinks, so so horrible they are. I will attempt some soup today with cream to give me some calories. I am worried about weight loss. My sinuses are clear now but then later on they will be blocked again and then clear etc.... but I suppose this is a good thing. My lips are making weird feelings so I guess their feelings are coming back. So far it's going OK. Dreadful experience though. can't stand it. I really hope things are picking up for others this week. Post on here. We will get through this together.

Monday will be a great day, 7 days post op!

Does anyone else having real problems breathing?

I am again at the moment then in a few hours will feel clear and a few hours again I won't be able to breathe.... how come?

How is everyone coping at the moment?

I am less emotional now, could not stop crying yesterday.

Lots of trouble breathing here. Very little nose-breathing going on. My mouth feels like a super-dry cave. It helps to hold a damp washcloth over your mouth lightly--gets a little moisture in there.

Hang in there Luke. I think we will all turn the corner sometime this weekend! Please! Please! Please!

My sentiment too. Please let us get better this weekend. I want my breathing to be easier and the swelling to have come down a lot.

How are you finding being wired shut? I hate is so much and got 6 weeks of this. I shouldn't think about it too much or else I will get depressed about it.

It is time for bed again very soon. I hope I sleep like last night, if not better than 6 hours.

Good luck to you Rizzie.

Hey guys, try the Tylenol 3 or whatever painkillers you have to help sleep. So far I have not had much problem with sleep as long as I pop a painkiller beforehand. Those things are supposed to make you sleepy.

Same for me. Can't breathe through nose and mouth is dry. Going to sit in front of humidifier now.

My teeth hurt from being banded. I am hardly numb so I am feeling so much. We'll get through it. But it sure is no picnic...
