Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
romancommander: You are looking great! Very little swelling that I can see! You are going to love flashing your great, big, non-gummy smile in a week or two! We definitely need a pic of that! I'm very happy for you!
Sams: my hubby is having sausages for dinner, too, and boy, they smell so good!! So far, my appetitie hasn't kicked back in, so I'm getting by without too much of a struggle. I'm kind of hoping it takes its time coming back, for just that reason. One week down, 5 to go!

Nice pic romancommander! You don't even look like you had surgery recently!
Sams, nice dinner! Sounds delicious. Can't wait to see your pics too.
Today pretty uneventful for me so I guess that is good. I also had both upper and lower jaw surgery (lefort 1 + BSSO + genio) but yet I am on soft foods and only have to wear two thin rubberbands, which I can take off to eat and brush. I am very much surprised by how wide I can open my mouth at only 6 days post-op. My TMJ joints are feeling better. I am reducing my pain med intake, and the feeling is coming back at a pretty good rate (well, except my chin is totally dead right now). Only thing I am waiting for is my jaw and chin to go down a bit more. It better!

Look how wide I can open to brush (rash on chin from surgery tape, sorry, pretty gross!):

Looking good, bracefaced!!! You swelling and bruising isn't bad at all, compared to mine. It will be very gratifying to see new smiles on everyone when all of this is done!

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
hi group,
I had my surgery 8 days ago and can honestly say it's been the worst week of my life! Today is the first day I'm not over whelmed with the pain so it's the first time I've been online.
To those who are struggling to breathe - try a humidifier in your room, I got a cheap one and it's really helped clear my nose and makes it easier for me to breathe particularly at night (when I get about 2 hours sleep!)
Been a negative week and wondering if it was all worth it, though glad that I am through the worst. Most of all I am angry that I had to go through all this to have a normal face.
If you want to compare big giant heads with me I've started a facebook group that has pics of me from the last week:
/home.php?sk=group_216292901721862
To all of you - I am amazed at how brave you are and well done to all of you who are week one survivors!

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
Neens you did it! You are over the worst. Even my surgeon said to me "I bet you're wishing you never started this, but I promise you you'll feel differently later" That's right, he PROMISED
Glad to hear from you as I was wondering what happened to the missing May Buddies who'd not posted a post-op message yet. Hang in there, as Luke88 said, it's really comforting that there are several of us going through this together. I am grateful that we can keep in touch, complain, swap stories together as we all understand what we're going through.
Keep in touch! Sams
PS Can't find you're photos, where do I go on FB?

Neens, I am so glad you are feeling well enough to post on here. Sounds like you did not have adequate pain medications, so I can only imagine your suffering! How long were you in the hospital?
I agree on the humidifier. I keep one running 24/7 in my bedroom, and use a saline nasal spray as well.
So glad you are feeling better, and here's to better days ahead!

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
We still need to hear from Lingualita and aussiere. I hope they report in today, too!

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
i cant post the group on here but if you search for 'ninas facial' in groups it's there as an open group for anyone to look at. Or go to facebook dot com and add the last link i posted to the end of that. I've had double jaw surgery - bottom one back and top one forward and up (bit more on one side).
Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
Hi Everyone,
Got my expander in today and it's interesting to say the least. I'm having a heck of a time trying to eat without getting frustrated and just giving up. I tried soup before and that was a disaster and then I resorted to applesauce and ice cream. Other than that, I drank a muscle milk to try and get some kind of protein for the day. As far as talking goes, I have a little bit of a lisp and am having a lot of trouble with letters like G and Q and an especially difficult time with the "ch" sound. Everything else sounds somewhat clear but I really need to take my time or else it just sounds like I have marbles in my mouth. Let's not even get started with the excess saliva, so sexy. I'm hoping that this gets easier over the next couple of days.
My surgery is scheduled for Monday, May 23rd in the morning at UPenn Dental Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. I'm getting a SARPE, Lefort 1 & 2 and all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out. Wish me luck. I'm nervous as hell but I just have to keep reminding myself that this will all be worth it in the end, two years is going to fly by and then I'll have the smile that I've always wanted.
Best of luck to the rest of my May buddies, keep me posted.

Hey bracedfaced, looking good! Great that you are already on soft foods. Wonder why the other two people who had double jaw surgery are still wired...
Neens, keep your head up like Sams said, it gets better really fast.
Everyone who had surgery this week, keep us posted!

I have a suggestion for your eating dilema! I bought some soft squeezy chef bottles used for salad dressing or cheap ketchup/mustard bottles would be just as good. I've been pureeing food and having soup/protein shakes through these bottles as well as drinking water, they've helped me SO MUCH! Basically all you have to do is squirt food/drink into the back of your mouth and swallow. baby spoons and sippy cups were too difficult for me first week and still are for drinking really.

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
Hey May Buddies,
Aussiere here from Costa Rica. Had my surgery on Tues - BSSO and Lefort. Honestly, this has been so hard. It takes every ounce of energy to post this, but I saw you guys were wondering about me and I appreciate that so much.
. I am at a surgery retreat center and the nurses are trying hard to get me out of my room, shower, eat, etc. Sometimes, I can't stop crying. I am so swollen, yellow and bruised. I keep wondering why I did this? It is hard to explain why you would have both your jaws cut open, just to close your lips together without thinking about it. Sounds crazy, huh?
It just started raining here, it is very beautiful. My swelling has finally subsided some, I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Hope you guys are doing well, keep posting. Thanks for caring.

aussiere, good to hear from you! I know just how awful it is, but it will get better very soon. You have the hardest days behind you. You will get through this. Sending positive vibes to you from California!

Aussiere, glad to hear from you. My surgery was last Wednesday so I am 6 days ahead of you. I had lefort 1 + bsso + genio. Today I did yoga, got a massage, and went to the grocery store. So I assure you, it gets better quickly. In fact, it will smack you in the face and all of a sudden it will feel like you turned the corner. I promise! It was day 4/5 for me. You are day 3 and I will tell you day 3 was my worst day by far. You're almost there!

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
luke: we haven't heard from you since Tuesday--how are things going? Just wondering how you are doing with the banded jaws? What have you been eating? anything really good? I made a really good peach milkshake today that was probably the best thing I've had since surgery!
Are you having trouble being understood? My jaws get really tired if I have to try to speak clearly. It takes so much more effort. My bands have no "give" at all yet. I was hoping they would lose some elasticity by now, but no, those babies are still on there tight @ Day 10.
Well, keep hanging in, and let us know how you are.
