Oral Thrush?

#1 Post by trc »

Has anyone experienced oral thrush (yeast infection) in their mouth and throat while being banded shut? If so, what did you do to fix it and how did you cope? I'm pretty sure it is from the antibiotics and the periodex mouthwash. It is so annoying!

You will need to see your doctor so he can diagnose the problem. If you do have thrush, you will need to take medication to clear it up--it is usually a swish and swallow medication. Sorry to hear you are having this issue. You should probably try to see your doctor as soon as you can.

yeah i got it during my 2nd week post op. i was able to open enough at this point to get a small tooth brush in my mouth, and i remember basically spending what seemed like a half hour or so trying to scrape all the white crap off my tongue (it was so disgusting). i didn't go see a doctor, i just kind of assumed it was oral thrush from all the reading i did. i got a pro-biotic powder and gargled with that and swallowed. did this for probably close to a week, 3 times a day. it eventually went away. i'm not entirely sure whether the powder was the reason for it going away, or it simply just went away on it's own because I wasn't entirely consistent with the gargling.

anyway yeah i can definitely sympathize with you, it feels and looks gross. but i believe it's fairly harmless, and will go away more than likely in a week or so after you start taking something for it. gl.

I remember one dose of diflucan clearing it up. It's gross but easily fixed.

Doctor ordered a prescription of Diflucan to take for 10 days. I took the first dose last night and it is already working. Can't wait until it is gone! So gross.
