Lip Retraction post surgery

#1 Post by trc »

Has anyone experienced their lips getting smaller after having upper, lower and genio? I am 15 days post op and my upper lip is retracting to the point that I can't close my mouth without strain. Most on this board talk about how big their lips are but mine seem to be getting smaller and tighter. Any ideas? Freaking out a little.

This is a wild guess but it could be from the stitches inside your mouth. If you imagine putting tension on the inside then it would cause your lips to sort of appear smaller. I do remember reading something about someone who wanted to have jaw surgery a second time but was refused by a surgeon because their lips would end up becoming too small. Maybe once the scar tissue in your mouth loosens up you will have more mobility and therefore your lips will appear more like their normal size.

Thanks trossi. That makes sense. Hopefully if the swelling goes down around my lips it will also release some of the tension that feels like it is being pulled upward.
