Cheek augmentation bad idea?

#1 Post by lillyr1991 »

I never thought I needed a cheek augmentation but, I went to Dr. Arnett and he said one cheek bone is bigger than the other, so he wants to do a cheek augmentation on just my right cheek.

I'm having both jaws moved forward btw.
Also, are there any risks to getting a cheek augmentation, he said he would use bone grafts?

I had cheek augmentations done with my double jaw surgery I had in Nov '09 with Gunson/Arnett. No problems with them at all. They probably only want to do one side because of the asymmetry...which, if not fixed, will likely be more prominent post double surgery.

Best of luck!

I also had cheek augmentations done and I'm really happy with the result.

From what I understand, the putty they use (at least in my case with Gunson) adheres to your bone and actually heals to the existing bone. So no, they do not move or float around. I have also not heard of infection from cheek implants. When you're dealing with such a major surgery, there are many many ways you can get an infection easier than with the implants. I wouldn't list it as a major concern.

I have read that chin implants can move, but have not come across same type of information about cheeck implants. I believe they use different materials. Might be good question to ask.

if they use bone grafting there is no implant, right?
