Oops, just worked out that my surgery is not until the 16th July, although I am going into hospital on the 15th. Apparently I need to spend the night in hospital the day before, so that everyone having surgery is lined up and ready for the next day. Doesn't particularly make a lot of sense to me, as I would rather spend the night at home and come in early, but that's just how they do it!

I started a blog today with pictures and a little background into my surgery, it's at http://annafaithjawsurgery.blogspot.com/

Thanks Lucia,

Not sure about what else to put up as yet, I guess I'll just wait until things start to happen. Hopefully I can blog from my phone in the hospital as I'm going in a day early.

Aaaah starting to get really nervous now! Can't believe it's next week

Less than week till my surgery on the 13th. Went to the ortho for brackets yesterday. After that did a quick pre-op visit with my surgeon. And to wrap things up I did my pre-op lab work at the hospital. I'm not feeling nervous or anything of the sort. I'm mostly excited about the process finally winding down. It feels like all of the braces and visits the the ortho are finally culminating into something substantial. I will be posting pictures to keep everyone updated. I know that people love being able to see the results and the process in visual form, so I'll try to keep it up to date :).

Good luck to everyone on their surgery! Praying for a great surgery and a speedy recovery for all.

My surgery is set for July 14th. I'm having double jaw surgery and I think a genioplasty too but that will all be determined next week :) Wish me luck...

annafaith: ill definetly be following your blog, i hope it all goes well for you.

this afternoon im off for some more moulds at my ortho then its nothing more until next wednesday when my hooks are put on in prep for surgery the next day. As im not seeing my surgeon until surgery morning and have only spoken with the anesthesiologist over the phone (will also see him on surgery morn) im feeling a little underdone, i dont know what else they could do but it feels so major for me (routine for them) that there should have been more prep

Hi w0nnie,

I don't think we really get to see the amount of prep that goes into it. Apart from my braces and surgical hooks, I've had one pre op assessment where they explain the procedure, photographs, and moulds, and that's it. I will only speak to the anaesthetist on the day of my operation, although have seen my surgeon about three times now.

Good luck with the moulds today, can't say I found it very dignifying, especially as the mould stuff kept getting caught in my braces.

I went through a BSSO, Lefort 1, Genioplasty and Septoplasty back in November of last year. It was quite the 9hr marathon surgery and I spent 3 nights in the intensive care unit afterwards. The surgery was pretty much a success in that it completely cured my Obstructive Sleep Apnea and improved my appearence. However, because they moved my lower jaw so far forward it seems that they dislocated my TMJs. So now on the 14th I have to have a bilateral IVRO (they'll break the lower jaws up higher than what they do in a BSSO) which "should" relieve the pressure and re-seat my TMJ discs back in the joint. No guarentees though!! The fact that I have to have another surgery doesn't bother me so much....I've had plenty of surgeries in my life. But after the first jaw surgery I was hard wired shut for 10 weeks and now with this one I have to be wired shut again for another 6 weeks. Being wired shut is the worse part about these types of surgeries IMHO. Pain is relative and I can deal with that....But not being able to eat solid food for 6 weeks really SUCKS!!!
