Just Had Minor Jaw Surgery Yesterday

I had a minor jaw surgery to remove the titanium from my upper jaw and the excess jaw bone on my lower jaw.

Some people choose not to remove the titanium but I decided to get rid of them because there were bumps on my lower jaw bone that I wanted to remove at the same time.

I thought this would help create awareness for people who are thinking of removing the titanium from their jaws after the jaw surgeries.

Interesting... what type of surgery did you originally have?

My surgeon never talked about a possibility that another surgery may be required to remove titanium... was this surgery always an option presented to you or was it necessary because of complication from the original surgery?

And what is the expected recovery time for this surgery?

Thank you Vince for sharing this! I have read your blog before and it is very helpful.

I see myself as possibly wanting my hardware removed at some point in time as well. I am not even post-surgery yet so who knows!

I believe it is quite popular to have the hardware removed in countries outside the U.S. In the U.S., most just leave them in.

My surgeon said mine will be left in, which if they cause no bother is ok as i don't relish the thought of another op just to get them out. Just think of it as xray bling bling ;)

Sorry for the late reply.

I was glad to remove the titanium because they were causing some discomfort above my upper teeth and under my upper lips.

The surgery was not very invasive and I didn't feel too bad when I woke up.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing! I haven't had surgery yet but the idea of the hardware being left in my jaw is a little strange to me, especially if I could feel it in there!
