My surgery is scheduled

#1 Post by Adriae »

I scheduled my surgery for October 31st and am hoping that others join me soon. I'm actually pretty nervous now. I've never had any sort of surgery before and it seems all a little overwhelming right now.

I'm having both jaws moved, palate expansion, chin (cosmetic) and sinus. All of this is really to correct my sleep apnea (67 times on average an hour I stop breathing) - and I have a restricted airflow because my lower jaw is set so far back that he has to move it 14mm forward and push my upper back a couple.

Yesterday my ortho thought it would be beneficial to put my surgical wires and posts on even though my surgery is still well over 2 months away and I have to go back in September to have everything removed for a dental cleaning. I am in so much pain today. I've never had an ortho appt that made me this sore before. I think it was because they couldn't get the wires in at first and basically was about to give up before it just popped into place. Dang!

I'm having my procedure done at Kaiser Oakland and one of the nice things about Kaiser is the classes they give you to educate you before. One of my first appointments being a 2 hour class to tell me about the procedure and how I will recover, etc. I've visited the board quite alot in the past year to prepare myself mentally for what I'm facing and I've asked my surgeon lists of questions so I feel that I'm pretty aware of what all the surgery entails.

Anyways, I wanted to share a little about myself and I look forward to reading more about how everyone is doing.

Wow, you're going for the works. :-**

Sounds like you could see a massive improvement in physical function, although as you know eating and breathing are hobbies that you'll be putting on hold for a few weeks.

FYI, my ortho put my surgical posts on a few days before surgery, because they are huge food traps and kind of a hassle. Not sure there's a reason to have them sooner.

Congrats on getting your surgery date. I also just got my date - 18 OCT. This is actually going to be my second surgery as I had SARPE last September. Now I am getting bsso, lefort, and chin. It sounds like you are going to be well informed of everything, and I really hope you share what they "teach" you here. I have been reading here ever since I started this process a year and a half ago, and find this site very informative and supportive. I look forward to posting with you in the future as we should be in the October Buddies together.

I have a date in December at Kaiser in South Sacramento. I think it's for a BSSO but they haven't told me that's certain yet. So far they haven't given me much information about what recovery will be like. How long before the surgery did you start taking classes?
