Hello Everyone!
I am new here and in the very early stages of considering jaw surgery for an open bite. It was recommended to me about 5 years ago when I was first in braces, but I was in high school at the time, and it was something my parents simply couldn't afford. Issues of cost certainly haven't improved, especially now that I am completely without health insurance, but I'm beginning to think I will simply have to find a way.
I have had an open bite for as long as I can remember, and while my orthodontist managed to conceal it more or less with pretty bizarre rubberband techniques, it has started to open back up over the years. Beyond this, I have a pretty noticeably receding chin and gummy smile, and I regularly bite my lip and cheeks while chewing. I have always been a mouth breather, and suffer from pretty terrible fatigue during the day due to resulting poor sleep. What has been the most difficult, however, is that I've gotten more and more severe and frequent headaches over the years, and despite visiting many doctors and neurologists, haven't been able to determine a clear cause (and therefore, solution).
I can deal with most of the symptoms I've listed, but the headaches are an immense detriment to my quality of life, and the chance to reduce them would be a major motivation behind saving up for surgery. I've read now and again that headaches may result from a poor bite, but this isn't usually a featured topic. So I'm wondering, is there anyone out there in this lovely community who noticed a reduction in their headaches after having orthognathic surgery?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Re: Improvement in Headaches Post- Bite Correction?
I had my bottom jaw moved forward last September and I have to say that since then I have had none of the headaches that I used to have.
I don't think my headaches were as bad as what you are suffering (they used to be at the back of my head and the base of my skull and used to make me feel sick), but they were bad enough to stop me doing what I was doing.
They started to ease as soon as the orthodontic work started really.
Hope this helps, best wishes, Marian

Hi Marian,
It is indeed very helpful and encouraging to hear that you experienced such a visible improvement in your headaches in correcting your bite - they sound as if they were definitely quite uncomfortable. More than that, though, I am just very happy for you to not have to deal with them anymore! Thank you so much for your response.
