Hello. So after a long time I'm finally on the other side.
I've had my jaw surgery a week ago. I've had a Le Fort (maxillary impaction) and BSSO (9mm advancement with rotation). I've also had jaw angle and cheek implants done during my surgery.
Despite such an extensive procedure, everything went well, most of my swelling is already gone down.
My only problem is that I am having pretty severe jaw muscle pain and stiffness/clenching. It radiates to my neck and feels like what people describe TMD to be.
My oral surgeon says it's normal, but everyone's BSSO story I've read on here has been relatively painfree.
I wanted to see if anyone else went through this or if they can just compare their pain experiences during jaw surgery with me so I can compare. I know jaw surgery usually is used to cure it, but did anyone develop TMD AFTER jaw surgery?
Thank you.

I had BSSO last week.
Most of my swelling has gone, I am still partially numb on the left hand side at the front but I am having pain and stiffness. I am on soft foods but can't open my mouth all the way and can't chew yet. My pain is now bearable without medication. I'm wearing bands all the time except when eating and am back to sleeping on my side, which is good because I couldnt sleep on my back!
My surgeon told me that I experienced a very early return of feeling, and that was why I was feeling so much pain. Often the nerves take much longer to heal and thats why most people dont feel the same level of pain.
