Hello everyone, I'm going to be having orthognathic surgery to fix an overbite. The surgery won't happen for at least another year, but I thought I'd introduce myself now and read up on other people's experiences a bit.

I was in braces for 5 1/2 years in my early-mid teens. The orthodontist tried everything to correct my overbite. I was in a bionator before braces and had a Herbst appliance during my treatment. The overbite improved a little, but it's still pretty big. It was recommended that I have surgery to fix the overbite but I didn't want to at the time. After my braces came off, I still had an overjet and a midline discrepancy, and on top of that I also had a crossbite that I didn't have before treatment. So now I'm 25 years old and trying to get my bite fixed. I'm having a consultation with the maxillofacial surgeon on Monday. After my consultation I'll be going back to my orthodontist to have spacers put in and begin my treatment.

I'm glad I was able to find this message board! :-1

Welcome to the board! Oh my, what a long journey you've been on! How did your consultation with the maxillofacial surgeon go? Are your spacers on yet?

Yikes, sorry for the late reply! My consultation went well. He told me that I have two options. He can either bring my jaw forward and do a genioplasty to angle my chin down, or basically bring all my bottom teeth forward and not do a genioplasty. Since I'm really not happy with how my chin looks, I think I would rather go with the first option.

I had my x-rays and impressions done at the oral surgeon and got my spacers in a few days ago. I'm going back to the ortho on the 28th to get my braces on. Next Monday can't come soon enough. These spacers are pretty miserable. I'm pretty nervous about the surgery even though it's over a year away but I'm sure the results will be worth it!

Hi :)

I am also having orthognathic surgery to fix an overbite in a years time. My bite is 10mm over!

Good luck with getting spacers! I had those on for a week, and could only eat liquids/soft foods the entire time, since it was so painful!
