So, I was looking at the forum - (first time user as well), to see how I should prepare myself for this, and to be honest, its not as scary as some people on this forum may feel it to be. In my opinion, these feelings of freight are only temporary, and will eventually dissipate. The only "fear" I have is the COST for orthognathic surgery - not the surgery itself. But yes, there are little fears here or there, I am only human, and I do react, but on a more realistic approach for myself, I understand these states of minds will only subside, and I will be able to carry on with my everyday life post surgery.

I hope to have this surgery when I complete my commitment to braces or when the orthodontist seems fit for me to have the surgery. All I know is that my orthodontist has recommended this to me, even though I was recommended when I was younger - this will be the second time I will be having braces, and a first for surgery.

I have been saving up for braces this past month, as I am a full time college student, and my part time employer does not cover cosmetic surgery. Also my parents are unable to afford such a cost.

Anyways, I think it would be just, to update my status and my journey through this surgery and braces, as I find it would be great insight for onlookers, and for myself personally to see how I develop and progress.

I am going to have my sugery in a about 1 years time.

have you checked with your medical insurance to see if they cover the surgery? Its not a cosmetuc surgery and in most cases, the surgeon can provide evidence that your surgery is medically necessary. that should ease the worry about cost.
