July 2013 Buddies
Hi,
I've finally got my date through for my surgery; 22nd July. I'm having my upper jaw impacted to get rid of my gummy smile and possibly a small movement on my lower jaw to make sure both jaws fit together well.
Anyone else out there having surgery in July....?

I'm tentatively scheduled for July 25th. Just found out I needed surgery last Thursday when I first met the ortho and got bottom braces. Ideally, I'd wear the braces for 3 months before surgery but there are some timing issues so I'm going to try to get it out of the way.
I'm meeting the ortho with my hubby next Thursday to discuss more details, but I think I need a Lefort1 and maybe to move my lower jaw back a bit. My problems are not very pronounced but the ortho said if I don't take care of it I'll start cracking and lowing teeth eventually.

Where are you from Mia? You are very lucky to have a surgery date so soon to finding out that you need surgery.
Re: July 2013 Buddies
I'm in Southern California, around Santa Monica/Malibu. The surgeon and ortho are in Pacific Palisades, but the surgeon is only there 10 weeks a year and the rest of the year is in Palo Alto.
I'm still hoping the doctor is ok with the date. I have an appointment next Thursday.

I also got by bottom braces and top invisilign the same time as my consultation appointment.
I'm busy and firm about uses of my time. Surprisingly, the doctor and his office has been wonderfully accommodating and nice about it.

Count me in as well but just barely as I'm having jaw surgery on July 31st . I'll be having a one piece lefort (possible multisegmental) and a bsso in Santa Barbara. I won't know my exact surgical movement until a few days before surgery.

And that makes three!
I've got an appointment next week for impressions/ wafer measurements. The following week I'm having hooks put on ready for the following Monday 22nd ( surgery day)
Life is very busy at the moment so I don't think it has actually sunk in that my surgery is only weeks away. I've changed my fitness plan to include more weight baring exercises so that I have the chance to build a little more muscle(not sure if it's working though!) I have also tried to increase my calorie intake but alas, that it also harder than I thought.

For weight maintenance after surgery, try mixing fractionated coconut oil (it doesn't solidify at room temp) with casein and juice. I'm sure you can do that now, too. Pre-surgery, you can also add regular virgin coconut oil to smoothies. I live in Southern California, where everyone is running a fresh, cold pressed juice shop, so I'm going to use good veggie juices in mine to give my body the nutrients that will help it heal properly.

Take a ton of vitamins you guys!! I had my surgery last July (best thing I ever did, so glad. It sucks while it's happening but it's so worth it!!!!)
For real though, take a ton of zinc and vitamin C at the very least. Calcium couldn't hurt either. Good luck yall!

Also, baby toothbrush! I know it says to get one in a lot of places... but if you can get an infant toothbrush. It was about the only thing that made my mouth feel better/clean and used it within like 48 hours... I'm weird about having a gross mouth and the liquid diet makes it worse. I had to be very careful and go slowly, but at my first post-op visits my surgeon was really impressed at how clean my teeth were and it made me feel more like a real person again lol

How are they going to do surgery without brackets and a wire in the top arch? They typically use them for the hooks for the elastics (rubber bands) to hold the mandible in position with the maxilla during recovery, and also during the surgery itself (using metal wire) to fixate the jaws together while the titanium plates are installed.

Got the top braces on today. We didn't think we were doing the surgery for months when I first went in so, since my top teeth hardly need to move at all, we started with Invisilign. I feel bad that they had to make it when I only used it for two weeks.
