New Member From Minnesota
Hello everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself since I am new. I am 31 years old and have recently been approved through my insurance company to get orthgnathic surgery. I have been fighting for years to get this done and am so happy it's finally going to happen. I just had 4 premolars pulled on Friday and I will be getting braces put on September 4th. I will be having my surgery done by Dr. Viozzi at the Mayo Clinic so if anyone has had this doctor perform their surgery I would love to hear from you. Right now the plan is to have surgery done 9-12 months after braces are put on. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I will be having my upper and lower jaw done and my cousin had the procedure done so atleast I have someone to kind of walk me through the process. I'm looking forward to reading about other peoples experiences and learning as mush as I can before I have the surgery.

Welcome and congrats on getting your approval!
I am also from Minnesota but I only consulted with surgeons in the twin cites so I don't know dr. Viozzi. However, I've read some good things about the mayo max facial people.
There is a lot of information here, so good luck with the research!

I wanted to find something closer to the cities but my insurance only had a list of surgeons they would allow to do the surgery and they were all over an hour drive so I figured if I had to drive that far I might as well go to Mayo since they have a good reputation.

I HAVE DR. VIOZZI. He is wonderful. I'm having surgery 9/24, I'm way older than you are and I've been in braces for going on 2 years.
Seriously, if you are in Rochester and you are seeing Dr. Viozzi, you have nothing to fear. He is very good and very well experienced!

It's so nice to find someone who has the same surgeon!! I will probably be having my surgery about a year after you have yours. He was so great when I met him for my consultation. He said he would get my surgery approved and would fight with me to get it done. He was so thorough with everything he sent in for my pre-authorization that he got it approved the first time! The drive isn't fun but I know I wont really have to drive to see him that often. You will have to let me know how everything goes for you.

I will. He is very good and highly thought of in his field. I work at MC, so I guess I kind of have the inside track on it. The guy is worth the drive. Likely your orthodontics--assuming you have need of some--won't be covered, but the surgery will be.
I go see him for "surgical records" on 9/3. I'll let you know what that's all about once I know . . .
It's good to know you are out there. This is truly and international board, so when you "know" someone with the same surgeon and within 100 miles, it's kind of funny, and comforting at the same time.
Stay in touch.

It's nice to know someone going to through the same thing with the same doctor. I have to pay for braces out of pocket but the orthodontist I'm using is very good and has worked with a lot of surgeons. Luckily my braces will only cost a little over 5,000 so not super bad and they are letting me do a payment plan. I get my braces put on September 4th and they are estimating I will be in them for 9-12 before I'm ready for surgery.

I haven't been on here in forever but I wanted to update this thread and start reading up on the surgery since it's going to be coming up in the next couple months if everything goes as planned. I have had my braces on for 15 months now which is longer than they thought it would take. I had a very stubborn tooth that didn't want to move so the orthodontist had to try some different things but he finally got it moving. He thinks my teeth look good and on the 3rd of February I will be going in to get new molds done to send to my surgeon!! My orthodontist said once my surgeon gets the molds that things will start happening quickly so I will hopefully be scheduling my surgery very soon. I have tried not to think to much about it in the last year because the thought of having my face broken into pieces does make me a little nervous but now that it's going to be coming up I am starting to really nervous and anxious about the whole thing. I wish I knew how to post photos on here to show what my mouth started out looking like and how much progress I've made so far.

I haven't been on here in forever but my surgery is approaching and I have been back online reading everything again. My surgery date is September 1st and I'm getting really nervous about it now that it's actually coming up.
