Hello people...
I'm a 19 year old female with braces, waiting on getting corrective jaw surgery through the NHS in a year and a half. Nervous as hell. I have to post here within 12 hours or my account will be deleted and I can't say I have a whole lot to contribute at the moment, so here's a thread just to say hey!
I don't know much details about my jaw problems in technical terms, but in average joe terms I can say that my face is pretty wonkey and my smile quite different from each side profile. My top jaw is being moved forward, and my bottom jaw moved across a couple mm's.
I joined here to find more information from people who've had the same surgery.. see some before/after pics, etc. It'd be nice to relate to other people that have problems with self confidence due to their jaw problems, as I do.

Hi there
Just read your post. I have just undergone 2 1/2 years of orthodontic treatment for my TMJ problems which unfortunately wasn't successful. I have a receded lower jaw which I have just discovered is due to a lifetime of mouth breathing and incorrect tongue posture. I have also recently discovered that the only solution to my problem is Double jaw surgery where the mandible and maxilla are brought forward. This is because my receeded lower jaw is impinging on my airway making it narrow.......which is rather worrying. I am also freaked out by this news......and I am a lot older than you. I am still trying to decide what to do for the best. One good thing because of my recent orthodontic treatment the preparation for surgery will be a lot shorter. Can you tell me which hospital in the UK you are having your surgery? And the name of the surgeon who will be performing it. I am trying to decide, if I do go ahead whether to have it done over here or in the USA........Good luck with everything.

Welcome! I just got braces last week, with the plan to get surgery in 12 to 18 months, so we may be going through this around the same time. For now, I'm focusing on the braces, probably because really thinking through the surgery would make me super nervous. My main problem is that my front teeth can't come together (open bite). After the braces straighten my teeth, the surgery will move the upper jaw to line up with the lower.
I posted some pre-pictures in another thread: http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtop ... 13&t=46343 (although I'm not sure if you'll be able to see them until you make a certain number of posts).
Good luck!
Molly
