Nhs waiting lists?!

Nhs waiting lists?!
Do you get put on the waiting list as soon as it's established you need surgery or when your orthodontist says your ready? My ortho said I'd be done by Easter (tomorrow) which obviously isn't the case. I've had a few moulds and X-rays (to see if my teeth are in the right angle and the moulds were to see how my teeth fit together after surgery so I thought I was close but now not so sure. I know the nhs are doing a great job I just hate the waiting times. How long on average are waiting times? I'm in Manchester UK if that helps anyone. Thanks!!

Re: Nhs waiting lists?!
Hi there,
I'm an NHS survivor too; here's my timeline (which according to others', is pretty average!)
October 2013- "Hmmm, one more adjustment and you're ready. I just want a little more movement at the front"
December 2013 "let's book you in to meet the surgeon at the next big meeting in January".
January 7th 2014 "yep, mr. Ortho has done a great job, this is what we're going to do... Let's book you in for 20th March." Pre-op done same day.
End of February 2014: impressions taken and x rays. NEw surgeon who is MUCH more thorough.
10th March 2014: surgical hooks fitted, more impressions (for wafers)
19th. March 2014: meeting with new surgeon and final chat.
25th March-operation.
27th March-out of hospital.
27th March-today. Slow transformation from Austin Powers' Fat B***a*d, through to Orangutan's testicle, to Princess Fiona....

Re: Nhs waiting lists?!
That's not too bad really! I've had mould and X-rays taken cause I'm "close" but I've still got pi***ing extraction gaps from oct 2012!! Fully open! Why aren't they closed yet so annoying! How was your surgery?
