Extraction of Impacted Canines
I just got my braces on Monday 9/19/05. This upcoming Friday, the 30th I am scheduled for extraction of 5 teeth. The oral surgeon will be removing two baby canines and one lower front. The thing I'm creeped out about is the extraction of both impacted canines. Has anyone had this procedure done. I know they are laying horizontal in the roof of my mouth. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Hi Mslaurielynn!
I'm glad you've now got your braces OK. Hope things are going OK for you.
I had the baby canines removed, but the impacted ones exposed & they're now trying to bring them down, so I can't really advise on you having the impacted ones actually extracted I'm afraid.
As Fyrelight says, there are a few of us with canine issues - so hopefully there will be someone on the forum who can help. Just wanted to say that I hope everything goes OK for you and try not to worry!
Let us know how you get on.
Take care

Mslaurielynn, like Fyrelight said, I had my impacted canines surgically extracted last May. Here's viewtopic.php?t=444&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=120 a shortcut to my report of the surgery, if you don't wish to read the whole 16 pages saga of mine
Loop also had both impacted canines surgically extracted earlier this year, check out Loop's Story: viewtopic.php?t=3680
Please ask, if there is anything you would like to know! Good luck and welcome to our elite club of the canineless

Totally Canineless
Thanks Fyrelight, Lucyeloop and Joplin for your input and support.
Today the baby canines, lower front and impacted canines came out. Surgery went well except for the impacted canines. There position made it a bit complicated and the fact they were pretty well have in the bone tissue made them a bit difficult to remove. They were located right behind my upper front and the roots were high up in the sinus and just below the nasal cavities. I have stitches in the roof of my mouth right behind the upper fronts out to where the baby canines were. Because of the location I have had several nose bleeds. Thank goodness for the Vicodin. Will keep you all posted and thanks for the support again.

Hi Mslaurielynn,
Glad to hear everything went OK for you...(apart from the canines... that sounds nasty.)
Hopefully, you'll feel better soon.
I suppose at least the worst/uncomfortable part is over now....you're now well on your way to getting the teeth sorted!
Take care & Get well soon. Let us know how you get on.
Best wishes

Mslaurielynn, glad to hear your surgery went well. Was it done under general anesthetic? I wish you a speedy recovery and best of luck with your treatment from here on, too!
