Hi,
I'm wondering if anybody can shed any light on this one.
My surgeon has said that I need orthodontic work done to twist my front teeth to create a gap at the gum line so that he can make a cut without damaging my teeth. I have a crown on one of them after a skateboarding tumble in my early teens and before then I had a small gap which was filled when the much larger crown was fitted.
I have seen plenty of cases on here and in blogs where their teeth are touching or overlapping, and surgery goes ahead with no problem.
I have emailed the surgeon and asked if this is necessary given that I have a natural gap below my crown.
In addition he has also said that there is a risk of losing my front teeth and mentioned dentures or bridges. This was never mentioned in all of my previous appointments, and feels bizarrely as though he is trying to put me off surgery. Has anyone else heard this?
Braces to create a gap before sarpe?

That's insane. Did you see other surgeons and orthondist?
Everyone case is different. For instance I got spacers and braces, then a month later the expanders that they turned about 9 times in total. Just had surgery 4 days ago and my surgeon turned about 10 times. I have yet to do it myself like others have and I have braces on

Thanks for the reply. I thought so too!
I'm on NHS and being treated in Glasgow, however I was given the option of having sarpe done in my home town as the waiting list in Glasgow is quite long. Judging by the response I got I will be asking for everything to be done in Glasgow!
If you don't mind me asking, why did you get braces before sarpe? I have been told that braces go on after the expansion is complete and the pallette has fused.
How is the recovery going and how is it dealing with both braces and the expander?
