Patience mostly. My mom came to stay with me to help take care of me so my boyfriend didn't have to take time off from work. She was a lifesaver because my boyfriend was very much a prison warden. He was afraid to let me do a lot of things...like walk around the house and get my own ice packs out of the freezer. My mom was much less intense, letting me drive two days post op and play Tetris with a bunch of boxes (of fairly heavy stuff) in her car. Just for reference, I didn't lift them, just arranged them.

The diet was hard, but for the first week, I didn't really have much of an appetite. It was a lot of ice and a lot of antibiotics. It will get easier.

Stay positive and keep your mind off the discomfort. Some people binged on Netflix shows while others just try to sleep through it. I played a lot of SPAMS so I didn't think about the discomfort. Set small goals for yourself to get through an hour or two and before you know it a week will be over and things can only improve from there.

You got out quite early. I didnt get out till day five and they didn't get me drink till day 4 but when I could drink, I drank strained soup or broth.

Hang in there! You can do this!

Hey guys thanks! I just visited my surgeon and he banded me shut. Is it supposed to feel really sore?! I can actually feel my lips my chin etc. I think I lost a bit of feeling in my nose only. But now that I am banded shut I feel even more miserable. How did you guys battle your bloodied phlegm? Because it taste so gross?!

Thank you guys so much, really! :D

I didn't have a lot of pain or soreness. And since I only had my lower jaw done, I didn't have bloody phlegm in my throat. Lucky me, all the bloody stuff was on the outside of my teeth and I drooled most of it out on the ride home from the surgery center (I also went home the same day as surgery).

Ahhh IC. Thanks for sharing. Btw is it okay to sleep slightly on my side but elevated? I dread sleeping because it is so uncomfortable!

I tried sleeping somewhat on my side on my bed wedge and I had a hard time with it. It wasn't super comfortable. So what I ended up doing was laying on my back on my wedge pillow and pulling my normal pillow next to me vertically so I could turn my head to one side and that seemed to help. The elevation helped with swelling and turning my head helped me get to sleep without affecting anything that had been operated on.

Hi I am a side sleeper but my surgeon didn't OK me for side sleeping till 5.5 week. Until then I was sleeping with at least 25 degree angle. It's supposed to help with swelling and not put any pressure on the sides of the face.

It's been a week now. I hope you are feeling better!
