I saw my ortho for the first time since surgery today and he was over-the-moon happy with everything I've got going on post-op. Since I had a segmental LeFort my upper archwire waso cut in pieces during surgery, so I now have one, very strong, continuous wire in place for the first time in nearly 6 weeks. Some of my teeth took advantage of their temporary autonomy and shifted very slightly so this new wire is a headache, literally. He doubled down and put me in Class 2 triangle formation elastics to complete my day of pain.
What kind of timeframe does it take to be pain free after post-op ortho visits? I'd usually feel slight discomfort for 24 hours or so after an intense adjustment in my pre-op days. Hoping for the same, but prepared for a longer, more uncomfortable experience since my bones and teeth are still settling in.
On the plus side, the ortho said I'll be ready to lose these train tracks in about 4 months!

Class 2 elastics...ouch

Segmental LeFort I and BSSO at 34 years old, 8 months after being back in braces for the third time. First two rounds of ortho were as a kid and teenager. I was originally slated for surgery at 16 until a new orthodontist convinced my parents that she could "fix" me non-surgically. Twenty years and loads of molar wear later...here I am!

Class II elastics hurt like heck at first but for me, it went away in about 2-3 days. The more you wear them, the quicker the pain will subside.

I had to wear double class 2 elastics at week 7. The first three days was very painful, more painful than the whole of surgery. I did what the above did and wore it almost 24 hours so the pain would subside quicker. I did my jaw stretches with them on too. By day 5 I was normal again. Hang in there!

Omgoodness, guys.... Such awful pain! I noticed that my lower midline was being yanked so far off to the left that I started to worry. I had my mom (a retired ortho assistant with 35 years under her belt) look and she freaked out. I emailed a photo to the ortho and he had me change the configuration slightly on the left side. Now I'm rocking an upper canine to lower first molar/lower first bicuspid triangle on that side. He wants to see anew updated photo before bed tonight.
He's thinking I'm biting erratically, which is totally possible because the left side of my head feels like it went through a car accident. The new upper wire he put in to replace the one that had been cut during surgery has popped the section that was *ever so slightly* depressed back into place already. Now that those teeth are aligned the wire is too long and has taken residence in my gum and there's not enough room for me to fit wax on the end. (I have bonded tubes on my #7s, so when a wire pokes through it has nowhere to go except into my gum)
I know this is just a temporary situation and that in the grand scheme of things it's very minor, but damn... this is the worst pain I've felt since the first week post-op, but without any decent meds! I've been a world-class grouch today!
