Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
Hey Liz192! I probably wouldn't bother going back through all the old stuff at this point; it's mostly "My gums are numb. How bout you guys?" followed by a chorus of "Yep, our gums are numb too"
Everything's good with me! Still have numbness on the top, especially at the front. Still can't open my mouth 100%, probably 80-90% now. I can fit maybe 3.5 fingers in. Eating anything and everything. Taking tons of pictures with my new face, as I think you've probably seen on FB

Haha. That's crazy you still can't open all the way. I'm glad it's not stopping you from eating everything. Haha I have seen the Facebook pics.
Things with me are good. My opening is good. My lower lip and chin is still probably 50-75% numb. I honestly doubt it will come back. Other than that we are settled here in Oklahoma and livin. I found out recently that I'm pregnant so that is exciting. We haven't made it public/Facebook official yet but our families know. I would like to say I'm eating whatever I want but not quite. Oh! I did have a carrot for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was amazing! I haven't bit into a carrot in like 2 years lol. It's totally the little things.

Woah, congratulations!!!
Kids are a ton of fun. Interesting to think your kids will always know you with your new face, eh?
Hmmm... I still have a little altered sensation in my chin, but the only time I really notice is when I poke at it to test lol. It's gotten easier when I shave, it's just the new shape of my chin that's the more difficult aspect. Good to hear you're making good progress on what you can eat!

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Thanks y'all!! Yes it's very exciting. After a 6 year infertility battle we couldn't be more surprised. Haha
What have y'all been up to??

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
Congrats Liz!
Things are going. More of the same for me. Ortho appointments and adjustments. Had one on Monday; and when I scheduled my next appointment I told the receptionist that if I didn't wear the elastics my bite would open on the left side; like it has since surgery. He had me stop elastics to move the upper canine. My bite opened that night and I have the gap between my uppers and lowers. Whenever he tries to gain width the tooth swings up and out instead of just out...... Grrrrrrrrrr. So I called and have another appointment this Monday. I hope he can figure it out. My numbness is getting a little better.

Round 3 (lifetime) Damon stainless applied 3/16/20 (after 4 weeks attempting invisalign) On for about 18 months
Night time elastics with invisalign retainers; still...
Double jaw surgery was 6/18/15...
Orthodontics never really ends...
I'm emphatically against extraction orthodontics!

That's so annoying, Nozzel! It's good you called and are getting back in, though. Hopefully they can figure something out.
Thanks for mentioning my video!

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
So I was clicking through a bunch of vids on youtube tonight.
Jamie's 2 day post op video popped up so I clicked on it. I remember watching it a while ago; but that brought back some memories!
It brought back so many different feelings. I was a bit shocked to say the least. The not being able to eat and being hungry. The swelling. The limited opening. The elastics. Limited facial movement The PITA it was trying to drink water to stay hydrated. The setbacks. My first "real" food; a fried egg eaten with a tongue depressor. A few days later; refried beans from Taco Bell...
OMG that was a horrible time!!!!!
So, if anyone wants to see how far they've come; watch it again.

I'm really glad I made the "2 days before" video because now when I watch it, I'm like, who the heck is that?!

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
Does anyone else here still have swelling? I have a little more puffiness on my right side over my mandible than I do on my left. I'm not sure if that's just natural variation in my soft tissues that I wasn't able to see pre-op because of my asymmetry, if it's a low-grade infection (though I don't have any pain on that side), or if it's normal to still have a little swelling 11 months post-op.
Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
I have some on my left side that is *very* slowly going down. It varies daily too; so it's not just you. I'm pretty sure Jaime still has some...
Not sure if it's related or not, but that's the only side of my bite that's not touching completely and is still open. It's getting a lot better since my ortho put some bends in the wire instead of relying on elastics. And the numbness seems to be getting slightly better too. Maybe the muscles are working more in that area so it's helping move the fluid out and makes the nerves "feel" something and repair themselves.
I had another ortho appointment last Wednesday; I didn't even want to ask "How much longer?" We've still got some work to do so I don't want to get my hopes up. I should probably stop bringing doughnuts and coffee too! If I brought carrot sticks and celery I'd probably be done by now...
