I'm around 3 years into my treatment and my orthodontist wants me to get jaw surgery in order to fix my underbite. I've already had two surgeries because of an impacted canine, and honestly, I really don't want to get another one. I was thinking that I might be able to fix this underbite ONLY with elastics as opposed to getting jaw surgery. I've been on elastics for roughly 4 months now, and I see a lot of improvement. My orthodontist wants to take off my braces ASAP until I have to get the surgery, but I'm thinking of telling him no. What do you think?

Honestly, if I were in your position...I'd be happy with the way your bite is currently over having surgery. I just had a 3 piece lefort 1 done on my upper jaw for an underbite and while the recovery hasn't been terrible, it was certainly a little more than I was expecting. Your profile looks fine on the sides to the point you can't really tell you have an underbite, I don't see why they won't just keep doing elastics to help move it instead of forcing surgery on you.

Just had the surgery last month to fix my underbite but mine was way worse than yours.. your profile looks normal to me I wouldn't go for it. I looked like a bulldog lol my Mid face was very under developed. Surgery isn't too bad recovery is long and can be a bit rough. I'm finally starting to eat somewhat normal again. But still some weeks to go before I can bite into a nice juicy steak.
