Is it safe to fly 14 hours 4 weeks post-op?

#1 Post by palm55 »

All,

Has anyone flown on a long (12+ hours) flight after surgery? I would be 4 weeks post-op at the point of the flight. My surgeon said I could do it, but it may be uncomfortable. I would be traveling alone, which makes me a little nervous. My energy levels are OK, but I'm not feeling 100% myself yet. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I flew for one hour about 7 weeks post op and puffed up again. you don't know how much swelling you will have at 4 weeks. mine stuck around forever. i wouldn't suggest it.

I flew that distance about 7 weeks after, and I was fine, but you'll want to be sure to tell them at check in and ask if you can have a seat where people are less likely to accidentally knock your face while walking by or putting luggage up. They were very accommodating for me.
