Maxillary Impaction and Nasal changes

#1 Post by james447 »

Hi there, if I get my upper jaw moved upwards but not forwards or backwards would there still be any changes to my nose? I'm mostly concerned about alar widening but in my scenario there is no advancement of the maxila at all.

Thanks!

Yes, there will probably be some change to your nose, but it may or may not be unnoticeable. Probably not the answer you were hoping to hear  Your surgeon would perform an alar cinch to prevent widening, but there may be a slight difference in width, perceived size relative to your face, or the tip may move slightly up or down, OR your surgeon may totally screw the pooch and your nose ends up looking 1000x worse in every possible way. You won't know until after the procedure.

I did my 3 piece LeFort in December - medical reasons were to fix my crossbite and open posterior bite. My surgeon asked if there was anything else I wanted done, and I asked for him to move it up to lose a little gumminess on my smile. I didn't have much, so it was only impacted about 1.5mm. I asked about my nose and he said if I wanted it wider or narrower he could do it ... I asked for it to just be about the same, definitely not super wide :)

I'm almost 4 months post-op now. My nose is a little ... different? Not wider, no pig-nose issues (my other concern), just not the same. I like it though.
