How narrow palate/upper arch should you have to be a candidate for SARPE?

#1 Post by Seaunicorn »

Does anyone know? It seems like it's only performed if the palate/upper arch is VERY narrow.

Hi I'm not sure what the criteria is but I'm having sarpe this year at some point I'm having my palate expander fitted in 2 weeks, my jaw is 24mm at the most narrow part which is the 2 teeth directly next to the canines my bite doesn't match at all hence the surgery not sure if this helps but all the best

I’m not sure what the guidelines are, but I know some people are unhappy with the cosmetic results of palate expansion if the rest of their face is fairly narrow. Just an FYI :)

Interesting! Do you know why they were unhappy?

Here’s a case that comes to mind so you can read for yourself:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Dentistry/comm ... and_sarpe/

Sometimes our heads grow a certain way that just doesn’t look as good with a wide palate. I’ve seen several people that look amazing with their mouths closed but when they smile or speak, you can see that they have a narrow palate. Perhaps it affects how the cheeks look when the mouth is closed? I’ve been paying more attention to that ever since I had my surgery. Every case is different, but just be careful what you wish for :D
