Hey everyone!
Thanks for all your supportand encouragment. I had a huge scare with my surgery actually so it hasnt been the best of weeks. I woke up with an insane headache and turns out that that isnt normal. So i went to emergency 2 days after the surgery and spent all day waiting for CT scans and spinal tap results cause they thought i might have had a brain hemmorage or infection of the fluid around my brain. Now if that wasnt enought to scare me half to death, i dunno what is haha. But 9 hours in the E.R. and i got to leave with good results and a higher dose if IBU. Ive been drinking alot of fluids and protien drinks so im doing good with that. i had some crushed fruit yesterday. I might be able to chew a lil bit but id rather not really. not yet.

OK quick question, ive turned it like 7 times since the surgery and the gap between my 2 front teeth hasnt changed since what it was the day of the surgery (right after the surgery) am i doing something wrong, or does the pressure build up and then it kinda lets go and then u get a big space. Oh and we are turning it for sure, because the space in the appliance is getting bigger, just not b\w my teeth...
thanks
Everyday im gettin better, im soooo happy bout that...i feel kinda normal now. the space isnt even gunna bother me as much as i thought becasue i had so much pain the first few days. id rather have a space then be in constant pain.
anyways, get back to me on that one question! thanks

Tina,

Wow! Sorry about your ordeal! Glad to hear you are well though. I agree with you on the not minding the space thing - I was in so much pain for about 3-4 days post op that I felt the exact same way! I remember telling my mom that same thing!

My space showed up immediately - but my front teeth were not overlapped at all. If your front teeth are crowded, then I don't know what you should expect. I've heard some people say they heard a "pop" and then saw a space - but I'm not sure if that was when they expanded without surgery. I think the best thing you can do is call your doctor and ask him/her. That's what you pay them for!

Thanks DM for the info on posting pictures! I'll get right on it!

Rachel

so sorry to hear of your difficult time tina...My gap took a while to show since my two front teeth were overlapped..as a result my space also ended up not being as large as most people whose pics I have seen...also I did find that there were times that the expander was indeed expanding but the space wasn't apparent right away...the new tissue had to form in response to the expansion..one night as i was talking to my sister she said.."wow the space has gotton bigger as we've been talking"...weird but true!

So while your situation sounds like mine of course talk with your ortho about it as Rachel reccomended...
Have a good night

The gap is coming....

Hi Tina,

Don't worry about the gap size yet, because it's definently on its way! Pretty soon you will have a big beautiful gap :D You'll probaly start to notice a difference in about a week or so.

As for me, I get my top wire on Dec. 19th. I can't wait to close the remaining portion of my gap.

Here is the latest on my progress:

Best wishes to all the newcomers on the healing process!

Thanks DM! So does yours :D Time has really flown by since the surgery.

I think that when I smile for pics on Christmas the gap will hardly be noticeable which makes me really really happy!

Well I hope that I do find some good info. I am wondering what types of food did you all eat or should I say drink and how long did it last.

Classy,
You can check my posts, but I believe I took liquids for about a week and then went on soft foods like pasta, eggs, and mashed potatoes. Being on liquids is really brutal so I recommend you get off of them as soon as you can after your surgery. The liquids I had were mostly shakes made with milk, fruit, ensure, tofu and I was hungry about every two hours :( Once I got through those first few weeks, I was back to eating my normal foods again.

hey everyone, sorry i have been gone for so long. i hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I just wanted to let everyone know that after my headache problem, recovery and expanding went smooth. The hardest part of it all was waiting in the hospital, knowing what they are about to do to me. after that, the headaches were brutal, but they arent common, so to all you new comers, dont fret TOO much, just make sure u have someone lookin after you to give u ur pain meds!!
My gap got pretty big, i could fit 32 note cards in it...but now it isnt even half that big....a month post op. it moved fairly quickly. I actually kinda miss the gap, i liked playing with it, but now i cant haha. Anyways, Happy to get things movin and all that jazz...
i get braces in the middle of feb, im psyched about that!
ill keep yah all posted,
have a good one!

Hey Tina,
Great to hear that your expansion is going well.

DM~Hope your not in too much pain anymore from the expander removal.

Here is the latest photo after getting my top wire put in a month ago.

It's a much better improvement than when I was first expanding right??!!!!

Time has really flown by and in a couple months I'll be totally done with this expander and on to the next part of the teeth journey! :D

Take care and happy healing.
