Insurance companies are the devil, plain and simple. But it could be worse. You could be flying solo with NO insurance.

How nice of them to let you know 2 months after it expired though. You'd think they'd at least send a letter to you letting you know, or just include the statement that it expires on the original approval. How hard could that be?? BCBS is actually one of the better ins cos, and that is saying something.

Let's take them out back and show them what we approve of   while we are at it we can take credit card companies too...

Hang in there...

I have BCBS too, and they don't even do a letter any more! They assign it a number and we just refer to the number when going for surgery. Thanks for the heads-up about the one year thing.

I actually had my previous insurance say that to me when giving me the okay to see this particular surgeon. They didn't have any oral surgeons in the plan so I could pick who I wanted and then get authorization from them to see him. At the time they told me that the authorization was only good for one year and that I would have to renew it as needed. So, this may be a standard practice. Someone just screwed up and didn't inform you. In the meantime...take a deep breath. I am sure they will reauthorize it. BCBS authorized mine so quickly (within a week, if I recall) I was surprised. My previous insurance company took a couple of months!!

Before you know it, you will be bruised and battered, and on your way to a corrected bite!

Wow...that's kind of harsh. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you or intend to make light of your plight. I was just trying to put a hopeful light on it. I realize that this is a big deal. It is with all of us. After dealing with the braces, the pain, the waiting for surgery, I can't imagine how I would feel if I got a surgery date, got all psyched for it, only to have the rug pulled out from under me as it was for you.

You have told us in past posts that you are not the freak-out kind of guy, so I thought my words might encourage you. Guess not. Didn't mean to imply that what you are going through isn't a p-i-t-a.

Believe me, I am not apologist for any insurance company. I have been through the wringer with enough of them, especially about my daughter. Talk about she-wolf time.

Insurance companies are all the same be it business, home, personal, automotive, health....you name it. It's all about them, how much they will take from you and how they will go about trying to avoid paying.

Possibly contact the insurance commisioner's office in your state? I have done this over insurance issues myself and the Insurance Commissioner's office will generally have multiple advocates that can review your case. This is paid for by your taxes and the insurance companies collectively. Google it for your state. The I.C.O. is on the consumer's side.

Lawyers, Bankers & Insurance underwriters. They are all in the same group. They are the true "Axis of Evil"!!

Not always...though they should be.

MMG - I have reread my initial post several time over. Believe me when I say that I wasn't trying to make light of your situation and I really was only trying to offer encouragement to you that hopefully this snafu would be resolved quickly. I am truly sorry for the problems this screw-up has caused you, and I am sorry that you took my response as siding with BCBS. Anyway, that's the last I will say on this.

MMG, every time I read your posts, I get a good chuckle. I love your bluntness and straight-forward approach to life. I have been accused of being a bit to-the-point myself, but if you don't want to know what I think, don't ask.
I'm terribly sorry to hear about the "issues" you've been having. I pray they will be resolved soon. I also have dental and medical with BCBS, but haven't had any problems...yet. I am so glad you told me about extending the approval for the surgeries. I will certainly keep an eye on that.
I also look forward to hearing your story...hope it continues soon. I am now looking in the light of the train called SARPE and it will be arriving the beginning of April.
