Hello
I have two kids now, and it took me quite a few weeks to get back to what I could call remotely full strength. Maybe if I didn't have kids I would have been back to full strength sooner (more sleep, rest etc). It's been nine weeks now and I am not taking any pain relief whatsoever, but I wouldn't say I'm completely full strength yet! I wouldn't want to be pregnant right now. I would think maybe 4 - 6 months after surgery you'd be okay? I wouldn't want to leave a new baby though through having surgery - if I were you, if at all possible, I'd get the surgery out of the way before babies. It's way easier when it's just you!!!
Good luck finding info

I'm 30 and my partner is 37. We have lived together for 6 years and are worried about missing out on our chance of having a baby. I have been wearing braces for about 8 months (i think) to correct my underbite and i need bi-maxillary surgery -i was told my overall treatment would take 2 1/2 or 3 years . My partner is especially worried about being an old dad so i'm considering having a baby during my braces treatment... Also, i had cervical cancer so i may have problems carrying a baby and the older i get the harder it gets.

I DONT MEAN BEING PREGNANT DURING SURGERY- I MEAN HAVING THE BABY WHILST WEARING BRACES BUT BEFORE SURGERY.

When i first began my treatment the orthodontist asked if i was pregnant or if i had small children as the whole process is traumatic on both the body and health and on kids. She advised me not to consider having kids until it's all done.

I'm trying to decide if i should try to get pregnant. In the ideal situation i would have the baby whilst i'm having the rest of my braces treatment and after the birth i will go on the waiting list for surgery. I have a strong support network to help me. I'm worried the dental hospital will decide to stop/not continue my treatment if i get pregnant..... I've waited years to be able to have this treatment and it's important to me. I'm a bit stressed as to what to do.

I'm thinking what's a couple of years more? but i'm also thinking time is ticking and i would be devastated if i miss out on my chance of a family.. basically down to vanity!

Just wanted to provide an update for the forum. It has been over two years since my surgery and I am now 30 years old. I did not end up getting pregnant before my surgery luckily enough, and everything went without a hitch. However, I did struggle with conception for almost 2 years and am now pregnant via assisted reproduction.

It's a hard call if you are are a little older and worried about your attempts to conceive. I know it is a little off topic, but you never conceive it will happen to you and the process is completely devastating each month when all your effort does not pay off. You expect to get pregnant so quickly (based on everything we were told as kids) so when it doesn't happen, within a few months you start to worry. A year passed and 18 months go by and more worry settles in.

Good luck to those who are in this same battle, my heart goes out to you. Just remember that you are not alone and there are MANY other people in your same shoes that know what you are going through. Don't be afraid to talk about it with others!
