Kenny~

Glad you're home! Sounds like things went well, but I agree with you that going back to work 6 days post-op might be optomistic. I believe Meryaten had a very fast recovery, but even then she started back part-time, but I don't remember exactly how many days post op that was--and that was BSSO, which as clairet says is a little less 'involved'. 10 days to 3 weeks seems to be more the average range of time off.

Might want to call your surgeon's office and ask as staff nurse about the pseudofed. I doubt it would work on anything other than 'normal' sinus irritation/infection/congestion.

Keep us posted on your progress and CONGRATS!

Day 3.....

It's been quite a bit more difficult than what I had anticipated. I've got friends and family that keep asking me what I need, but the only thing I really NEED is for this sinus pressure to let up.

It's been hard watching my wife take care of my 4 girls by herself, but they all left earlier today for Chicago with my in-laws. Now, it's just me all weekend. I've been trying to get up and move around a bit.

I'm thankful to be done with the surgery, but I just wish I could skip the healing part.

I'm sleeping (somewhat) in a chair to keep my head elevated. I didn't get much sleep last night. My nose is so stuffed that I'm breathing out of just my mouth. I wake up with my lips and tongue dried out and stuck to my braces.

People have stopped by to see me and have been shocked how swelled up I am. My dad said I didn't even look like the same person.

Hopefully the weekend of rest does me good and I'm feeling better when my girls get back.

How about some of your pain meds, Kenny? I guess I'm hearing you saying that they don't work for the pressure sensation?

Yes, healing from a major surgery feels like you are just waiting, waiting, waiting for the days to go by, doesn't it? Day 3, btw, is the peak of swelling, so it's going to get better from here on out.

Sounds like your wife is going to get some help this weekend, so don't feel guilty about that. Focus on lots of rest, a bit of exercise, healthy eating. I bet you will be feeling hugely different in 2 days time.

Pain medication helps a little, but not so much on the pressure...it's up to just below my eyes.

I know it takes awhile for the swelling to go away, but I'm hoping it goes down a little by Sunday night. My girls didn't know what to think when they saw me. My oldest (10) was "ok" but the other three were kind of scared.

Thanks for the support....

Hey there im 12days post op (lower jaw only, and wisdom teeth removal) so cant sympathise with the sinus issues but can definatley sympathise with the swelling issues.

I was unable to have the anti-inflamatory drugs, so the swelling i had was pretty bad, and at one point my chin area felt and looked like it would pop  but it does get better, all be it quite slowly. My swelling is still very obvious, but gradually going down.

Drinking plenty seems to help, as does moving around, i found once i was able to have a little walk outside and get some fresh air the swelling went down abit quicker. Also as your doing, sleeping sitting up slightly seems to help :)

Hope you feel better really soon.

Kenny,
It was nice to read how you are doing, and like Lou, I am unable to know what the sinus pressure feels like or how to relieve it etc, but I'm sure that it will get better soon. And the swelling will do too, not necessarily noticeably though unless you look back on photos and what-not.
In a way its nice that you have this free weekend as you can relax a bit more and not feel so much guilty that your wife is looking after your girls like you mentioned. Pamper yourself.

Rach
