I must say that I take exception to that comment. I would be doing the exact same surgery if there were no aesthetic benefits at all (and there may be none, once it's all said and done). For some of us, this was purely a functional choice, and if there are some aesthetic benefits, so be it. Personally, 4 days post-op, the way I feel right now would not have been worth it solely for vanity.[/quote]

I agree with Broadway Bill. I had a BSSO because otherwise I was at long term risk of losing my back teeth due to jaw misalignment. There's no way I would have had orthognathic surgery if my dentist, orthodontist and two surgeons hadn't all said I would need it.

As far as genioplasty, yes, that's a cosmetic thing. But it's also not anything like as complicated as orthognathic surgery.
