Hi, I had this surgery done a year ago July 29th. I was supposed to only be out of work for two months. Surgery was deemed medical necessity due to chronic obstructive sleep apnea. My work was suffering due to exhaust from poor sleep and I was also falling asleep at the wheel. On the seconds day of recovery while still in the hospital I was advised by the Chief of Oral surgery that oxygen had not made it to my upper maxillary during the eight hours of surgery. Can you imagine my confusion? My mouth was wired and could not really speak. To cut this story down and move forward I was told that necrosis was setting in my gum's as they were turning black. Horror! They immediately set me up to start HBO therapy. I was bruised from my eyes all the way down my neck and onto my breast. As time went on my gum's died and tell out, them my teeth fell out and finally my Jawbone's died and fell out. Here I am over a year later and still not back to work the surgeries later. Hospital has taken responsibility and covering the cost. But my mental status is about shot. I am supposed to be getting implants sometime in November but not sure. They have already implanted zygomatic bars in my cheeks as there simply no jaw bone to attach. On the bright side of things I no longer snore! Please ask as many questions that you may have before doing this. My surgeon and staff were shocked. They said they had never had a patient to experience this. Sorry for the long narrative but this has been a long journey and not over yet
