You're very welcome! Deep breathes, lots of patience, and trust in your doctors! If you haven't already I would suggest asking if they have someone in their office you can email your daily (at least I had/have them daily) questions to. That way you know you are doing everything you can pre-post op for the greatest outcome! Stay positive, and keep smiling :)

Just got back from my pre-op surgery consult. A couple of impressions, a look at what my new profile should look like, the cost in writing and everything is sweet and ready to go. Oh, I forgot the take home paperwork

BRING IT!!! I AM READY :!:

Ifwood, can I borrow some of your swagger? I was at the hospital for my pre-op appt, getting blood drawn, a physical, neuro evaluation....and this was me  I was quivering in my boots!

I told myself that I wouldn't start shopping for all the post-op stuff until after the pre-op appt (just in case they discover that I have more serious issues and can't make it through surgery, you see)....so unless I hear that there was a problem in the next few days, I guess I'm off to Wal-Mart, ect....! I have this vision of me bolting down a snowy road in just that hospital gown, having escaped through dark hospital passageways minutes before they wheel me in....don't get me wrong, I'm ready, I'm doing this.....I'm just the anxious type, I guess!

I just wanted to drop by again and wish all you January peeps the best of luck. It seems like it is quite a popular month, and I look forward to hearing about everybody's successful surgery!

OhioM: I noticed you said you had a neuro exam as part of the pre-surgery workup. I've not heard of that before and was wondering if it was prescribed in your case or if that's routine and I've just never heard of it (I never had anything like that for my first surgery). Of course, you don't need to provide any personal details if there is something specific to your situation. I don't mean to pry, but am just curious.

Best Wishes to all!

 This is exactly how I'm feeling too. Not exactly nonchalant, but there's nothing to worry about now, really. I've been waiting long enough for this to have my nerves in check
Come on OhioM- you should be cool as a cucumber too!

I've got my final appointment with my ortho tomorrow aswell, just to check that my splint fits. I wish I didn't need a splint, but I think it's likely I will

I've also decided to tempt fate and declare that it's too late in the day (so to speak) now for them to cancel my surgery. I don't think the NHS are really capable of organising surgery for someone else to be ready in a week now

It's very comforting to know that there are plenty of other people in the same position as me. I've been lurking for almost a year now and figured I'd join in all the fun :)

My surgery is on Thursday (two days!), and I have to say that I am more excited than anything. I remember getting the pre-op jitters a couple months back when it became official, but I've gotten over it (about 92.51%). I am definitely ready for it now. I've still got a few more things to pick up tomorrow, and within 48 hours I'm very proud to say that it'll all be over (mostly...). As for my last meal, I haven't given it much thought but, strangely, I think the whole liquid diet thing sounds fun--it'll give my poor jaw a break and I like that I get to be creative with it...lol.

All the best for the rest of the January crew!

Welcome ivstinvs!! What surgery are you having?

I wouldn't say I was as cool as a cucumber, but I am ready.

OhioM, I guess the pre-op prep depends on the type of surgery you are having too.

My surgery is at 1:30pm and my surgeon says that she will come and see me that evening and that I am likely to not remember. As I will be in intensive care unit (intensive care unit) I have told my family (even my husband) to not worry about coming up on the first night. Its not like I can talk anyway. I told them they can come up the next day. But I would prefer to make sure that my husband is taking care of my two little boys (aged 2 and 4).

My last meal will be breakfast and has to be eaten before 7:30am - it will be a big breakfast!!!

My parents have decided not to come and see me on the first day either. I'll most likely be asleep, I suppose, although it's nice to wake up to someone. Oh well! I'm just going to take my phone with me so if I feel like it I can just give them a text and let them know how I am.

I have to be there for 7.00am (so I can't eat anything from midnight, and can't drink anything after 6:00, which is when I'll be setting off), but I don't actually think you are allowed family members to come and wait with you (because of lack of room, apparantly), so I'll be on my own before the surgery too. I'd rather not be, simply because I don't want to be sitting waiting for my turn on my own because I'll be bored. Although I've been told I will be either the first or second priority surgery, so shouldn't be waiting too long. I'll take the novel I'm reading, although I'm not sure I'll care much about reading it.

ivstinvs- Good luck! Hope everything goes well for you. What are you having done?
