Yesterday I had my wafer fitting which was perfect. And a really lovely nurse talked me thru everything and I signed my consent forms so basically I'm good to go

Just crossing my fingers and ties that it goes ahead ok on Monday. Hope your appts go ok on Monday adorkable, and wishing you good luck for Tuesday if we don't speak before - I'll be off the grid at this festival over the weekend. Will try to check in Sunday night tho x

Hi All,

I'm having a LeFort I done tomorrow in CT. When I got started with all this about a year and a half ago, my surgeon thought I might need upper and lower jaw surgery. The ortho did a great job, however, and my LeFort II plus BSSO plus Genio is now just a LeFort I!

I'm grateful that the recovery will be quicker than I was expecting, and it was nice to have the surgeon tell me that he didn't think I needed the genio after all. I didn't have the splints tested out in the office - my doc gets 3d scans made of the models, and those are used to produce the splints. I have to say it was pretty cool to get the 3d model of my head to zoom around, and the images showing exactly what was going to be done are pretty cool too! Do most people get the 3d workup?

I don't know about "most" people, but I had the same VSP document. I didn't get to zoom around the model myself tho, I just had the .pdf. Neat stuff!

Yeah, at my second-to-last appointment we walked through the 3d model, and I asked for a copy. They burned me a DVD with software and the files so I can zoom in and out, rotate, etc. Kinda neat!

I go in on the 13th to get my pre-surgical work up. From the CT Scan my surgeon is going to print a 3D model to practice on and then he also said he would practice on the computer some how? It makes me feel better that he is practicing but even without the practice I know he must be good since he is the Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial at the Mayo clinic in Rochester. I guess being labelled as "deformed" can have it's perks because it got me a great doctor.

I saw the discussion in the September thread and just wanted to chime in that in my experience, I didn't really need that much help after surgery. You'll spend most of your time lying around, probably on a recliner of some sort, and you'll occasionally get up to grab something to eat or use the bathroom. I actually found my husband was hovering over me too much and I'd send him away!

Also, I found after lying around watching Netflix for hours on end, it was actually nice to get up and heat myself up some soup.

So don't be too worried you're by yourself, slewmissy. You'll be fine!

Jamie that makes me feel a lot better. I'm hoping my son will at least be responsible for the many pets we have. I'm guessing the last thing I'm going to want to do is clean out bunny cages and litter boxes. I told him if he can take care of the animals and do the house work for a little while we should be good.

Really excited to get my bite corrected - asymmetrical 5mm and then I have a 3.5mm underbite. I am 26 years old

Slewmissy, I found it hard to bend down and/or look down for the first couple of weeks, so I think you're right that cleaning out of a bunny cage might be hard.

Yeah I was guessing bending over to do litter boxes for the bunnies and the cats wouldn't feel too good. What I'm really worried about too is not being able to see my horses. One of my horses has a tendency to whack me with his head so I'm thinking getting my jaw whacked by a 1300 pound animal wouldn't be a good thing. Once I'm up to making the drive I will go visit them and pet them over the fence but it's not the same as taking them out of their pastures and brushing them. Thats the one thing that totally relaxes me and helps me forget about my chronic pain that I have. I also have a very spunky foal that needs more work being handled and we have been coming a long way so it's going to suck to go backwards. I need to ask my surgeon when I go next Thursday about how long it will be before I can ride again.

Hey all! I just discovered this board today. What a coincidence that I also have double jaw surgery for my underbite + asymmetry, on August 10th! I swear, kelse, if you're in NY, I'm calling shenanigans on the universe's part. My surgeon told me that I can, more or less, decide whether I want a BSSO (bilateral sagittal split) or IVRO (vertical ramus osteotomy) on the day of the surgery. I'm leaning towards the BSSO because of the shorter recovery time and more stable bones since they plate the jaw afterwards. But I'm still a little hung up on the risk of nerve damage. Does anyone know how bad it is if it's permanent?

Hi all, typing this from my phone while reclining in a flier chair. Had my lefort done on Thursday here in ct. Surgery was fast, and I spent the rest of Thursday in a private recovery room. Didn't sleep much due to difficulty breathing and pain.

Went home Friday morning and spent the day watching Netflix. Nose bled on and off, pain wasn't too bad - just still 100% nasal congestion. Took am afternoon nap ( I NEVER nap) but couldn't sleep at night again; was up every hour. Drinking lots and lots of water helped ease throat pain.

Woke up today, ate my first solid breakfast - scrambled eggs- and collapsed back in my chair. A shower and coffee briefly energized me, but mostly I'm exhausted. Tried waking around the nearby park but any extended movement makes my nose bleed :/

Hopefully can sleep better tonight. Oh, and I look like I got hit in the face by a truck
