Oral Surgeon is very happy w the results, says I look like a million bucks!
I bet you do look like a million bucks!!! Good for you. 5 days post op and you can eat some soft foods like Mac and Cheese?? That's fantastic! Did you find something else you like better?
I had been thinking about your family also. I hope all is well! I have been doing good. 15 days post op today. I still have swelling and tightness, but all in all I feel preety good. I have developed an ear ache and I am hoping it goes away soon.
Good luck to everyone!

Jessica, I'm glad you are feeling pretty good. Are you venturing out? Is your ear ache infection? Can you put drops in it and make it feel better?
Went to the oral surgeon this morning - just 48 hours post op here. He pulled some big blood clots out of Josh's nose and he feels SO much better. He snipped the bands and said he's leaving them off until Friday. So he is debanded at this moment.
Joshua refuses to take the liquid hydrocodone so he wrote him a prescription for Tylenol #3 tablets. So he is in big pain, but he is stubborn. His poor little bottom lip was trembling because he hurt so much.
Hopefully within the next hour or so, he'll have some relief.
OS also said ice is pretty useless for the swelling after the first 48 hours, but to put it on him if it makes him feel better.
Thanks, yeah my ear seems better today. I have been going out lately and feeling okay about it. I do worry a little because of the swelling, but it is fine. I hope Josh is doing good. Why doesn't he want any pain killers, sheww I couldn't manage without them especially the first week. Well I hope the tylenol helps!
Now the tylenol with codeine just knocks him out. While sleeping is a good thing, yesterday I could only get 1 1/2 bottles of boost down him and maybe half a cup of juice.
Today I got a bottle of boost but he cried and fussed and told me I was mean.
I just don't know. I'm worried about him today. He's so out of it and hurting.
It's totally normal in the first few days to not eat much. I didn't. He probably doesn't have much appetite because of the drugs and the pain. This might last for 4-5 days.
This happens with any surgery. Don't worry about it too much. His appetite will return.
For right now, just try to focus on having juice available for him all the time and let him (for the most part) tell you when he needs something more.
Thanks Audra. It just stabs into my heart, ya know? He is miserable today. We are doing our best, but I think there's just not a lot we can do but just wait and let his body heal. We are being sweet, compassionate and trying to treat him like a king, which he would normally love, but nothing is making him happy.
The caretaker's job is extremely difficult. My husband had a hard time seeing me that way too. I actually was more worried about him than I was myself going into the surgery because I knew it would be hard for him.
It doesn't matter what you do this first few weeks. He's not going to be happy. It's hard to explain just how awful you feel after this surgery. I've had quite a few different surgeries and this one has been the hardest by far. You cannot ever escape the pressure in your face and when it hurts - it really hurts. I cried every day for at least a week, and didn't feel like I made the right decision until about 3-4 weeks post-op.
Yes I cannot fathom how badly he must feel. I've not seen him so miserable.
My sister in law and my niece had this surgery, but both only upper jaw. Josh had upper jaw plus chin. My sister in law kept telling me that her daughter, (also named AUDRA) was out the door to her friends in 8 days.
I'm hoping toward the end of week 1, he'll be feeling a bit better.
Everyone definitley recovers differently. I was in a lot of pain the first few days, I also had trouble with the liquid medicine they gave me. My dad called and they prescribed me pills and my dad just crushed them and put them in juice. It was 100 percent better. A couple of times when I took the liquid it made me throw up it was so awful, so they had to do something. I found it much easier to take the weird tasting juice then that awful thick liquid. So I can definitley relate to that. I hope he starts feeling better. The first week is the worst. I am 16 days post op and hardley feeling any pain anymore. Still swollen and tightness in face though.
I also liked icing my face. When I went to the doctor like 4 days post op, he said the ice probably wasnt helping to try heat, and it felt good. So maybe that could help, you could ask his doctor. Anyways good luck!!
Yes, single jaw is much easier. I had double jaw - so not so easy.
On the plus side, because he is so young he will actually bounce back quite quickly - compared to me (I am 44). My surgeon actually said that. He was telling me about a young male who he operated on. His terminology was (we beat him up pretty good). And he told me that that young man would heal much faster than me.
So, I hope that provides some light at the end of the tunnel. He may be miserable now, but he'll move through it quickly and resiliently.
Day 10 today, swelling is going down more and more every day.. still very numb in my chin and lower jaw.. my tongue also feels numb but i dont know if thats just because of all the numbness on the lower jaw or what. I can open my mouth about 1 finger. I'm still on percocet but I think within a day or two I wont need them anymore, I have ibuprofen and Viocdin if I need them. I wake up in the morning and feel really good, the more I talk throughout the day the more pain I end up being in by the end of the day. Everything looks good but im so paranoid about things shifting/moving out of place.. also its really hard to brush my teeth because my lips are still pretty tender and when I do brush I poke stuff that shouldnt be poked. Over all things are good for day 8.. hopefully day 9 is even better!.
