I had Le Forte I and BSSO on 12/6. I spent one night in the hospital and I've been home for a day now. Lots of swelling and numbness but the pain isn't that bad. I'm really looking forward to the swelling going down.

I'm 5 days post op and the pain from rubber bands start getting to me. It's horrible. Maybe I need to start drinking anti-biotics they gave me.

The antibiotics wont help with pain, but you should be taking them because they prevent infection. My pain is down somewhat, but I am still straight miserable. I am nearing the one week mark, which is supposed to be the only bad part about recovery. I sincerely hope so. Sorry for the whining guys, just letting you know what's up 8) .

I had my surgery on thursday :) had my lower jaw moved forward 8mm. Everything went really well! my surgeon did a great job & he is really impressed with how im healing. I stayed in hospital for 3 nights, intensive care for the first night because I had my mouth banded shut and they just wanted to keep an eye on me incase I was sick. I was fine, I just had a really sore throat and really wanted a drink of water but they wouldn't let me because I couldnt open my mouth (so I was just on a drip for the night) I was so happy when my surgeon came in to see me the next morning and took off most of the bands (he left 2 on, one on each side & I still have them on now) I drunk about a litre of water as soon as they were off haha and had some milkshakes too :) I feel sorry for the people who get wired shut for weeks! it's horrible not being able to talk or swallow anything properly & my teeth kept clenching so it made my jaw a bit sore.

I haven't had too much pain though! all im taking at the moment is panadol! lol (I have stronger medication but I haven't been taking it because it made me constipated and my pain is not even that bad) I was expecting more pain! my swelling is pretty good too! It was at its worst on day 2 or 3 and I only have small brusies on my lower jaw, I thought I would have some down my neck too! I dont think I have any nerve damage because I can feel my lips and chin, its a bit numb in the chin area but not bad at all I can still feel it when I touch it.

I have been eating & drinking really well (im lucky to have my mum cook me lovely soft foods) and im feeling really good :)

I have to have my xrays tomorrow then i'l see my surgeon on wednesday, and i'll see my ortho sometime this week too. Im not sure how long i'll have my splint in for but I hope they can take it out soon, its hard to keep my mouth clean with it in. But apart from that everything is great & im so happy to have a correct bite :D

Hope everyone elses recovery is going well too!

Hey Y'all!

I'm having my surgery in Boca Raton, FL on Thursday 12/15/11.

Some before pics to give you a heads up on what we are working with here:

Tried to find something on my facebook showing my face in profile.

I'm having both jaws moved to fix my underbite. I've had braces on for about a year and a half. I hope everyone else is healing well.

I'm having the pre-surgery jitters and stressing about getting feeling in my lips after I recover.

Good luck Bingebag! My surgery is Monday and I already have the jitters. I had my pre-admissions testing this past Monday and it was the first time I got scared and started questioning my sanity.

Just thought I'd add my name to the list of people who had surgery this month.

My surgery happened on December 12, so I am 3 days post op. I can barely open my mouth, so the rubber bands are pretty much constantly clenching my teeth together. Very uncomfortable. Hoping to be able to open soon.

I had both jaws done. Basically had them both moved forward. Also had a slight maxillary impaction, but most of the movement was forward. My lower jaw came forward 7mm.

Still very numb in the upper lip, but not the lower at all. I'm hoping to progress pretty quickly, but I still feel very tired, swollen, and I think I have a ways to go before I feel any better.

Good luck to all others!

I had an upper le forte 3 piece on 13 dec. So far everything has gone as expected. Breathing sucks but afrin helps alot. Eating is going good, I like broths and protein shakes the best so far. I tried a tomato basil soup and all the basil clogged up my braces so that didn't work to well. Luckily I have a waterpik and cleaned them right out. the waterpik has been a lifesaver for this whole braces/surgery ordeal.

Does the waterpik hurt at all? I was figuring I might just set it on the lowest setting.

Anyways, I was released from the hospital at about 11am this morning, which was the beginning of my third day. I'm feeling rough but fortunately my girlfriend got off work on Friday and had been helping me out a lot. Best wishes to everyone else going through jaw surgery this month!

Had my surgery done on Friday. Everything went well and I came home that night. Only one nose bleed so far (knock on wood) The worst part for me is barely being able to drink anything , even water. Every time I swallow, my tongue hits the expander and shift the bones around. My face is also VERY swollen. My husband says it's not that bad, but I can look in a mirror! I'm just trying to get to day 5. Most people seem over this hump by then. The other worst thing is I can play or hold my two year old son. It's very confusing for him.
