Thought I would say hello.

#1 Post by tazza362 »

Hi everyone, have only just found this site but it could just save my sanity. I am having upper and lower surgery on Tue to correct my open bite. I also have quite a long face so there has been talk of genioplasty as well. In fact my case sounds exactly like littlespark. Anyway, am getting quite scared now, Have read all the wonderful posts and replies on here and just thought I would say hello so that when I ask for advice afterwards, you will know who I am. Anyway, just to say I feel a bit better and when I start worrying I will just think about everyone else that has been there and done that and hope that that will calm me down a bit. Don't suppose it's so much the actual surgery as the general aneasthetic that freaks me out a bit. Anyway, Thanks in advance, hope I can call on you all for a bit of advice after my op?? Thanks

Hi welcome aboard. I had a SARPE procedure yesterday. I know there are many here that have had the same type of thing as you.

Tazza, welcome to the board. I am sure you are going to come through your surgery just fine. Check in with us as soon as you are able, we'll get you through the post-op time.

Good luck for next week!!

Thanks for your replies, it really does make me feel so much better just knowing that there are other people out there that can relate to my concerns and worries. I will post just as soon as I am able. I know you are all right, and that I am probably worrying so much that I have actually built it up to seem more than it actually is. Anyway thanks again.

Hi Tazza,
Wishing you all the best for Tuesday - the worst bit will be the waiting as all the others have said already. Hope all goes well.

Lots of luck for tomorrow! It sounds like you're having the same/similar done to me. I had upper, lower and genio 2 weeks ago to correct an openbite and overjet.

Will be thinking of you,
Katie

Ps. Make sure you get a sippy cup (like toddlers have) for drinking from when you get home. It's so much easier than a proper cup and the syringes get boring after a while!

Good luck!!
Good point. I forgot we had to remove this. I haven't actually been told no straws (and in fact one of the nurses straight after the op tried to give me one) but I can't press my lips together yet so can't use them anyway!

I was verbally told "no straws" then about 21 days post-op actually noticed the written instruction that said "no straws for the first 10 days" - guess who'd been eating frappucinos with a spoon

They brought me straws with my dinner and the nurse pitched a fit (but I guess it was just standard when a liquid diet was being ordered). Another nurse also had a fit when she saw me raising the ZNS "straw" to my lips, but we quickly reassured her as to how that worked.
Your nurses sound like they were really well informed! Mine didn't have much of a clue to be honest (although they were lovely) but luckily I'd done so much research (and thanks to Archwired too!) that I knew what I could and couldn't do!
