1 WEEK POST JAW SURGERY, I FEELING FINE!

#1 Post by maryjay »

Hi guys, ive just posted my surgery experience in the Our Braces Stories forum. with photos of my swollen face too!

just to sum up, it went really well, and im not really in any pain, just discomfort, the worst part is the swelling.
the best news is that i have full feeling in my chin, lips and tongue, and my surgeon was so impressed he said i dont need my mouth banded up! hurah!

my jaw was broken on both sides, moved forward 6mm and then two metal plates covered both gaps and four screws to hold each plate in place. these plates stay in for good..... this sounds pretty terrible right? well i hope this gives comfort to anyone yet to have surgery, that ive been though all this... (oh yeah, and the stitches too) and it really is ok :)

cant wait for the swelling to go down, my reflection keeps freaking me out, so no longer looking!

thanks guys for the support,
Meryaten, you have given me the best two pieces of advice that id just like to say thank you for, firstly the children's toothbrush, i was so freaked out about brushing my teeth after the op,
and secondly my night in the hospital i couldnt sleep, (i dont want to lye on my back, i cant sleep this way!) after 2 hours of staring at the ceiling, i put a spare pillow under my knees, it was so comfy i finally fell asleep.

my bruising has gone down about 30% in the last 3 days.... cant wait to see my new non-swollen face.

...and yeah, i think i got some good karma in my recovery being not too bad to make up for the 3 hours spent in the cupboard, i can deal with that trade off! :-)

im feeling really well, my face has deflated bit by bit every day and i think the swelling is about 80% gone now.
my bruising is a very pale yellow down my neck, you really cant see it,
and as for the way i feel, i really feel ok! - no pain
if i could just eat normal foooooood!... i miss it so much!!!

I'm with you on that one. I miss food so bad I can't stand it. I've got three more weeks before tasting something I can chew.
